The Water Institute of the Gulf is a not-for-profit, independent applied research and technical services institution with a mission to help communities thoughtfully prepare for an uncertain future. We deploy scientific research to support national, regional, and local stakeholders in policy development and the planning and implementation of infrastructure improvements, ecological restoration, and resilience strategies. Through an integrated and interdisciplinary approach, our work helps create more resilient communities, thriving economies, and a healthy environment.
Our research spans a variety of specialties from applied engineering to numerical modeling to human dimensions to ecology and geology. We partner with local, state, and federal government agencies, universities, NGOs, and other researchers to provide independent, creative applied science solutions to tackle the most difficult problems that communities and ecosystems face. Our team is always learning from each other and pushing the boundaries of what is possible. It is important that the data, analysis, and model output that we produce can be discovered and utilized by researchers and practitioners.
