Product Zone Specialist at Apple

What I liked

Yes, Apple is one of the best places to work, especially for students who want some professional working experience in sales, marketing, operation management. It even provides 401k, health insurance, and stock plans for all the employees no matter you are full-timer or part-timer.

What I wish was different

The overall experience is excellent. I do not have anything to dislike.

Battery Manufacturing and Design Engineering Intern

January - August 2023 • Sunnyvale, CA

What I liked

This was by far one of the most formative periods of my life. I got to explore a new city, develop myself as a professional, dive deep into simulation work, explore mechanical engineering as a supplement to my coursework, and work with international vendors in a truly unforgettable experience. I am honored to have worked with some of the most brilliant people I have ever met.

What I wish was different

Working in MDE, it was hard to meet other interns, and my unusual start time made it feel a little lonely in the beginning.

Advice

Ask for help! Things get very difficult very fast, so don't be afraid to ask around and make use of the incredible fountains of knowledge around you!

Tooling Design Intern

June - September 2021 • Sunnyvale, CA

What I liked

Big company with a lot of resources to make projects happen, worked in a lab which meant hands-on work was a big part of my job, good overall culture, the amazing quality of products is really cool to see, I had good amounts of responsibility and good work life balance.

What I wish was different

Only intern at my location so I got lonely sometimes, however I found some other interns in nearby locations to get lunch with by reaching out through slack. Also difficult to network when isolated in the lab.

Advice

Some people have had different experiences at Apple in terms of fulfillment, so make sure you know your job description and have talked with your manager about it. Network as much as possible since people are willing to have 1-1’s with interns for your own personal and professional growth. Go to Apple Park and try the gelato, if you can.

What I liked

I loved learning about project management and the field in general. I was able to connect with and learn from employees at Apple. It was an incredible opportunity and I solidified my desire to continue project management post graduation.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship had been a little bit more structured. It was hard to remotely intern and I think adding in a structured feedback process would have helped.

What I liked

I felt like the work I did actually mattered and I was contributing to the team, and everyone I worked with and met throughout the internship was so eager to help me out in any way they could.

What I wish was different

The internship was remote, so I missed out on many opportunities to connect with coworkers and other interns.

Advice

Make sure to take the time to connect with everyone on your team and set up informational interviews with as many people in the organization that you can! Take advantage of the fact that you're an intern so everyone is willing to chat and give you advice.

What I liked

Apple is very understanding with your work schedule! Loved the fact that they provided me with a brand new iMac, Smart Keyboard, and mouse! Pay is ✨great✨ Let’s just say everybody 🍗ate🍗. In all seriousness would definitely recommend (in fact I do) because you gain an innumerable amount of leadership experience/skills!

What I wish was different

I wish that they would allow students to actually work on the iMac outside of work, and I also wish they were more empathetic towards at home network issues.

Advice

Have some good internet, always participate in the events and games/raffling opportunities to win free merch! Also, do NOT get a double, get a single for housing. You cannot have this job and have a roommate🫶🏾.
