Technology Analyst

June - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Large bank with a lot people from different backgrounds. Interns had a lot of free time so it was nice to meet a lot of interesting people in the bank.

What I wish was different

They don't treat interns that well. Felt like a second class employee while there. Forgot to pay interns, didn't have a lot or work to do, very few events for interns outside of work. Wouldn't really recommend this play to anyone doing tech either: very novel and not really sure if there is a clear vision

Advice

Meet as many people who will be in your corner as you can. Networking is incredibly important at a bank like BNY Mellon-- they really value it and instill this philosophy into the interns.

Summer Analyst

May - August 2018 • Jersey City, NJ

What I liked

I loved the people, work, and company. The work was rewarding and I believe I left an impact which was the best part. The company earned my loyalty and that is something that is hard to come by.

What I wish was different

The only thing I wish that was different was that I had a better on-boarding process to make it a more fluid transition so I could get going on my internship faster.

Advice

If your boss gives you an opportunity to add something to your skills, take it. It could, and did, allow me to make a meaningful impact on the internship I had and made them want me to come back.

Infrastructure Engineer Intern

June - August 2021 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Good team, friendly manager and coworkers, meaningful project and I learned a good amount.

What I wish was different

Could have been challenged more, lots of red tape and sometimes less communication with my manager than I would have liked (as he was very busy).

Advice

Be a go getter, don't wait for opportunity to come with you. Step up and take the initiative to go above and beyond your project/assignment.

Financial Analyst Intern

June - August 2023 • New York City, NY

What I liked

The people, the access to financial resources, and the endless networking opportunities. Everyone was very approachable and treated each other with respect.

What I wish was different

I wish I received more information about my role prior to starting and wish the job options once in the program were not limited to our current line of business.

Advice

It may be nerve-racking in the beginning and you may feel like you don't know anything, but everyone else is feeling this way. The people at your work who care about your success will guide you with the right resources and industry knowledge.

Business Analyst Intern

June - August 2023 • Pittsburgh, PA

What I liked

I loved the genuine connection I felt with the community at BNY Mellon and furthermore within my subgroup of the Engineering department. This wasn't the kind of internship where you fetch coffee and twiddle your thumbs-- they trusted me with real impactful projects. Some examples of the work I did include comprising Power BI Dashboards to foster a culture of reuse in the bank, and additionally completing research to fuel the decisions of technology to be implemented into the workplace come 2024. I presented these works to Level 3 managers across the globe.

What I wish was different

I wish I was able to continue on a part-time basis during the school year-- but otherwise, the program was put together with great detail and I was very happy.

Advice

Meet as many people as possible! It will happen naturally with some employees, but also mix in coffee chats that are outside of your comfort zone. Be the first to reach out and be proud of your work-- tell them about what you've done so far and ask to take more on. You never know who could be an advocate or mentor for you in the future.
