Mechanical Engineering Intern
May - September 2017 • Calumet City, IL
What I liked
I liked that I was able to work right alongside VPs who were in charge of the Ford North America Manufacturing. It helped me gain a lot of interpersonal and business skills along with the engineering skills that I was learning. I learned a ton about the manufacturing process and I have had a much easier time in my manufacturing class this semester because I already know a lot of the information from working this summer.
What I wish was different
I wish I did some more design within the internship as well. I learned a ton about manufacturing, but not much about design.
Advice
Be ready for a fast-paced environment for pretty much anything to get thrown at you. It really keeps you on your toes.

Intern
May - August 2017 • Dearborn, MI
What I liked
I liked how I worked on real projects that my team members were working on. It was awesome. They also housed us in Dearborn in a really nice apartment complex. Amazing summer.
What I wish was different
I wish we could work from home once a week as interns but once you graduate and work full time you most likely can.
Advice
Get on the internships early. Go to all of the career fairs and sell yourself! Most of these companies are trying to hire the person, not the title. If you are outgoing and seem confident, they will like you.

Site Process Management Intern
June - August 2017 • Dearborn, MI
What I liked
I enjoyed my ability to create any projects I thought fit into my position. The work I was given was good, but I never felt like I was doing enough. My supervisor allowed me to decide any extra projects I would like to take on and I did just that.
What I wish was different
I would have liked some way to have had a project I could start at the beginning of my intership and complete at the end.
Advice
Talk to your supervisor and they can make anything happen.

A little better structure to the internship program. No direct mentor was assigned.
Advice
Be patient with your projects and learn as much as you can, regardless of what department you get assigned to.

IT Developer Specialist
May - August 2017 • Dearborn, MI
What I liked
The internship overall was a great learning experience and I had a project that made an impact to day to day business. I have been offered a position back and they are still using my project every day to manage all their documents and project information.
What I wish was different
The initial training process was not very clear and it took some time to understand exactly what it was that was expected of me. Once I figured everything out it was all good from there.
Advice
Take advantage of all the intern events that they offer. They make it easier to get to know people and make connections at Ford. They also help a lot with the internship itself.

Manufacturing Finance Intern
May - August 2019 • Wayne, MI
What I liked
My team and my project. My manager, supervisor, and fellow analysts were great. My daily tasks and projects were fun too. I really felt like I was apart of the team since my very first day. Everyone was so helpful and welcoming-even those who I didn't work directly with. When it came to my project, I ultimately was responsible for doing the work myself, but I did receive great assistance from everyone. They truly wanted to see me succeed.
What I wish was different
My summer housing. I lived too far away from the rest of the interns; further away from Detroit.
Advice
Be prepared to learn a lot! Take advantage of intern opportunities and events and ask as many questions as you can to ensure that you understand your project.

What I liked
Treated as a valued member of a team and contributed real work that is now live. Also, the company had plenty of fun events for interns.
What I wish was different
The living situation was a bit tight.
Advice
Give 110% every day and you will be hired. If there is extra work, offer to do it. If there is more to learn, learn it.

High Voltage Battery Applications Intern
May - August 2018 • Dearborn, MI
What I liked
I liked that the internship was hands-on. I also liked that the company was welcoming and friendly. It made it very easy to ask questions and talk to coworkers when needed. I also thought the intern program was very helpful with getting to know the area, meeting other interns, and getting to know all different parts of the company.
What I wish was different
I think the only thing I wish would’ve been different is getting started with projects earlier on in my internship. I did a lot of project work but the first couple of weeks were slow because of poor communication between the group of people I was supposed to be working with and my team.
Advice
Talk to multiple different people throughout the company. It’s so helpful to see what’s going on, not only in your department, but in other departments so you can understand the big picture.

Digital Marketing Intern
May - August 2018 • Pittsburgh, PA
What I liked
I had the opportunity to work on a digital marketing project that dealt with a somewhat untouched market. This gave me a tremendous amount of freedom and allowed me to create something meaningful to the company. Also, Ford is incredible. People care for you so much, always willing to lend a hand, and will teach you more than you ever thought possible in 12 weeks. There are endless opportunitues to move up within the Marketing Sales & Service division. You can live in cities all over the US and create your own path after your entry position.

Global Data Insight and Analytics Intern
May - July 2018 • Dearborn, MI
What I liked
I was able to network with Ford employees from all backgrounds and areas within GDIA. The work I did was very meaningful, and even anticipated by management. Housing and intern social events were excellent.
What I wish was different
I “jumped into” two existing projects, so I would have liked to experience the formation process of at least one project.
Advice
Don’t be afraid to vocalize when you think the workload is too little or too much. My supervisor was very invested in making sure I had an ideal balance and an overall good experience.

Material Planning and Logistics Intern
June - August 2018 • Dearborn, MI
What I liked
The independence of projects and the endless learning opportunities. The company always holds networking and professional events so that you can expand your network and learn as much about the company as possible.
What I wish was different
What I wish was different more relates to outside of work. The intern housing was a little weird. There were two intern housing areas in which one had significantly more interns placed there than the other. I was in the area with less interns, so making connections outside of work proved a little difficult.
Advice
Your supervisors and any other mentors you have while working here really want to see you succeed. Ask for help whenever you need it. They want to see you in a full-time position just as badly as you want to.

Sheet Metal Operations Intern
May - August 2018 • Dearborn, MI
What I liked
I had an individualized project that allowed me to further explore different aspects of my major. I enjoyed being able to work on internal supply chain operations as well as the technical side of redesigning a warehouse layout on AutoCAD. In addition to my project, the network that Ford exposes their Interns to is also unique. Meeting with top executives bi-weekly to hear about their experiences and ask questions about your internship or their career path.
What I wish was different
I wish I had more exposure to an actual position that I could be placed into. Instead of being assigned a project for 12 weeks I would have liked to have a day-to-day objective like it was an actual position within the company
Advice
Network, network, network... Not only is talking to other people beneficial for you but them as well. The relationships you build with people is very important and ultimately makes you feel even more sure about career paths and opportunities in the future.
