The availability of my coworkers, intern networking and learning events, and inclusion of interns in discussions was a great experience.
What I wish was different
Handling of online support was a bit rocky at the start given the pandemic and last minute changes, so could have been better but it's understandable that things were the way that they were.
Advice
Be sure to attend as many intern events and talks as you can, as there's a ton to learn about NASA projects and experiences.

Power and Thermal Systems Intern
May - August 2020 • Houston, TX
What I liked
I loved that I had a chance to make displays and procedures for the International Space Station. Getting to talk to the engineers who are in charge of operating the station and trying to find ways to improve on it has been a dream come true and it has solidified my interest in wanting to work at NASA
What I wish was different
I wish that circumstances with the Coronavirus had been different. Interns can only get so much out of online work, but it was made up by the efforts of the IT team at NASA and the mentors within my group who were willing to adapt their schedule and work around an online platform.
Advice
I would say to continue to be persistent. I never would have thought that I would be in Mission Control had it not been for my persistent attempts at applying to the internship.

Electrical Engineering Intern
June - August 2019 • Mountain View, CA
What I liked
Loved the team and the project we were working on. You get to work on projects that are intellectually stimulated and that ask the big questions about our universe and world. You are surrounded by highly motivated, intelligent, and kind people who are willing to take time out of their day to mentor you, answer questions about their work or projects, and even give you side projects and experiences to supplement your intern project.
What I wish was different
More time! I wish I could have continued work there since there is only so much you can do in 10 weeks, but overall the experience was great.
Advice
My advice to any incoming NASA intern or any tech intern really is to not be afraid to ask questions and to seek out mentorship and friendships with people who work there. It may seem intimidating at first to talk to someone who is older and more experienced, but they were once in your shoes and are most likely more than happy to help.
