Research Intern - Hedge Fund Due Diligence

About Madrigal

The Madrigal Funds were formed in 2015 to manage hedge fund investments on behalf of charitable and other organizations associated with Liz Simons and Mark Heising, including the Heising-Simons Foundation. Our primary objective is to build a multi-strategy portfolio of hedge fund investments that generates attractive risk-adjusted returns over time with limited volatility and correlation to the broader equity and debt markets, and which protects and preserves our capital in difficult markets. We take a long-term view when building our portfolio and committing to managers. The Madrigal Funds actively pursue investments in a range of hedge fund strategies, including: Equity Long/Short (including long-biased and market neutral); Credit and Fixed Income Relative Value; Event Driven, Distressed & Special Situations; Multi-Strategy Funds; and Quantitative.

Job Description

The Research Intern will work as part of the hedge fund research team. The Research Intern will assist in analyzing and evaluating prospective hedge fund managers for the Madrigal Funds, and in monitoring and tracking hedge funds in Madrigal’s portfolio and investment universe. The Research Intern will be exposed to a wide range of hedge fund managers within Madrigal’s investment universe. We hope and expect that the Research Intern will develop a deeper understanding of the hedge fund landscape during the course of the internship.

Responsibilities:

·         Assist in various projects, including creation and improvement of analytical tools

·         Conduct prospective manager due diligence and analysis, including statistical analysis

·         Attend and participate in in-house prospective manager meetings

·         Attend and participate in internal research discussions and investment committee discussions

·         Track and monitor hedge funds in Madrigal’s portfolio and investment universe

·         Develop an understanding of all aspects of Madrigal’s portfolio, including managers, strategies, and risk & performance models

Qualifications:

·         Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills

·         Extensive experience with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint (with a particular emphasis on Excel)

·         Strong quantitative and analytical skills

·         At least two-years of undergraduate studies

·         Energetic, enthusiastic and willing to work as part of a small team

·         Some coursework/experience in capital markets, investment management and financial analysis is desired

·         Must be able to commit to 15 hours per week

This is a paid internship -- compensation will be based on experience.
