Government Affairs Paid Intern

Bipartisan government relations consulting firm headquartered in Washington, DC representing the largest number of local governments of any firm in DC, needs a dedicated Intern.
 
Your help is critical to help us achieve our objectives- protect waterways and endangered species; address various environmental issues; rejuvenate neglected industrial areas into sustainable, vibrant economic communities; develop economic development plans for blighted cities; provide needed transportation infrastructure; and help mitigate lead paint hazards for young children. Your work will be critical in ensuring the team meets it's goals of obtaining funding for these crucial needs and to provide overall client satisfaction.
 
Objective: To directly contribute to the overall success of our advocacy efforts.
 
Be an integral part of our success in our unique work environment – independent, responsible, self-starters will:
·    Assist lobbyists and staff on short-term to medium-length projects.
·    Research and track federal legislation.
·    Search previous and current appropriations bills for critical information.
·    Locate grant opportunities for municipal and nonprofit clients.
·    Assist with public relations by compiling information for TFG’s website, database and business proposals.
·    Attend congressional and industry hearings and briefings.
·    Write blog posts, summaries and memorandums.
·    May also be responsible for contributing research and written content to technical reports on economic development planning, demographic analysis, environmental issues and related subjects.
·    Interns are expected to remain informed on current legislative affairs and daily news events. 
 
Education: Preferred candidates will be working towards, or have earned, a Master or Bachelor of Arts or Master or Bachelor of Science in political science, public policy, economics, environmental sciences, urban planning or related disciplines. We prefer applicants able to intern forty hours per week. Compensation is at an hourly rate of $11.50 to $15.00 per hour. Individuals with Masters Degrees in these disciplines with strong writing skills and related experience, are preferred. Candidates with BA or BS degrees in the same disciplines will be considered if the candidate has two years of relevant research experience.

·    Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
·    Proficient in research, interpreting and analyzing diverse data.
·    Ability to work collaboratively and independently to achieve stated goals.
·    Highly organized, able to solve problems, able to work effectively under pressure.
·    Ability to use independent judgment effectively.
·    Ability to produce a quality work product within tight time constraints.
·    Proficiency in Microsoft suite programs, Adobe, and internet applications is necessary.
·    We require a policy-related writing sample from all applicants.
