Summer Intern

PHI’s California Alliance for Prevention Funding (CAPF) is seeking a Summer Intern to join their team for Summer 2018. CAPF’S mission is to build a culture of health for all Californians, reduce disparities and contain health costs through education and state level advocacy for new and sustained funding to promote health equity and prevent the leading causes of illness and injuries, particularly through upstream primary prevention. As a Summer Intern, you will:

  • Assist in the planning of and preparation for4 regional convening’s throughout California.  Proposed regions include Southern California, the Central Valley, the Bay Area and Northern California
  • Extensive event planning such as managing logistics, drafting agendas, set-up and break-down etc.
  • Drive the outreach and development of community partnerships
  • Assist in developing presentation materials and web content (graphs and infographics) for www.ca-allianceforpreventionfunding.org
  • Research and write a 1-2 page fact sheet about the successes and benefits associated with community based prevention activities, with an emphasis on primary prevention, that address chronic disease and injury
  • Research potential funding sources, governance structures and criteria for allocation of resources for a State Wellness Fund, which would provide sustained, dedicated funding for chronic disease and injury prevention in California
  • Participate in meetings of CAPF and meetings of CAPF’s ad hoc committees
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Ideal Qualifications

  • Enrolled in the third/fourth year of a Bachelor’s degree program with emphasis on public health
  • Basic understanding of the principles of public health
  • 1 year of professional research experience
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Event planning experience desired

Important Information

  • This is a part time (20 hours/week) internship
  • This internship is scheduled for June 11, 2018 – August 31, 2018 (Flexible)
  • The starting pay rate for this internship is $15.31/hour
  • This internship requires light travel

 

Compensation:

This is a non-exempt position and the salary is commensurate with experience.
