GSEP Research Assistant (NSF Grant Project)

Research Assistant - National Science Foundation funded Digital Makerspace Global Collaboration Project
Graduate School of Education and Psychology (GSEP) at Pepperdine University
Hours/week: Anticipated 5-10 hrs/week
Location: Work Remotely (no physical location, work from home)

Description:
  • The research assistant (RA) will serve on a team with fellow RAs on a National Science Foundation grant-funded research project, where youth participants from different countries collaborate on making media artifacts to teach each other various topics/subjects, notably in math, science, and technology (http://ic4.site)

  • RAs will assist in different aspects of the project implementation and research both with the group and individually.
  • Tasks can include transcribing, administrative support for the project logistics, coding (for analysis), data entry, managing artifacts participants create, operational support with the students and teachers, reviewing project ideas, and other projects as assigned. (tasks will be based on skillset and need)
  • Strong candidates will have some kind of work experience (to demonstrate responsibility and commitment), and/or coursework or experience with qualitative coding and analysis or web design experience. CITI Human Subjects training is required but may take place after hire.
  • Pay starts at $14.25/hour

Qualifications:
  • Seeking currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students with either coursework or experience with qualitative coding and analysis or web design and social media experience (*please provide relevant links in your resume or cover letter).
  • Must have at least 5-10 hours to dedicate each week.
  • Have an eagerness to engage in technology mediums for communication, collaboration, and media-making.
  • Be willing to learn and help out with project tasks as needed!
  • Awareness and respect for diversity necessary due to the international nature of the project.
  • Strong mathematics, science, or technology background preferred, but not mandatory. 
  • Experience working with middle and high school students also preferred.
  • Flexible attitude and sense of humor also ideal.
  • As the position has flexible hours, the candidate should be able to work independently and have initiative to report progress.
