News Media Startup - Political Columnist

Tired of political sites and political writers that live in a bubble?
Quibbl is an interactive news feed where users bet on the outcomes of trending news stories for points: more right answers gives you a top spot on the leaderboard and well-earned credibility. In contrast to other platforms that encourage echo-chambers and viral low-credibility news, we challenge users to read the news and make thoughtful predictions about what’s going to happen next, incentivizing them seek new perspectives, apply critical thinking & understand diverse viewpoints.

We’re actually doing something about fake news.
After being recognized by Silicon Valley’s YCombinator as one of the top 100 startups out of 10,000+ applications, we launched in Spring 2017 (pre-Beta) - find us @ quibbl.me - and have quickly scaled up our user base and product capabilities. There’s work to do, but our initial user engagement metrics exceed Buzzfeed’s and tell us that we’ll become an important player in online media if we can keep building a team of passionate, creative people. If you’re someone interested in helping us create innovative ways to reach our ambitious goal of becoming a thought-provoking marketplace of ideas, then we need you on our team.

We’re looking for a writer to join our Politics staff as an intern. The Quibbl Columnist Internship is an opportunity to cover the major political stories of the day as well as a particular area of focus you want to cover in depth. You’ll have the opportunity to own a key content area: become Quibbl’s Chief Foreign Policy, Environmental Policy or 2018 Election Columnist. You’ll work closely with the Politics Editor to learn practical content creation skills and meet regularly with the rest of the Politics staff, a team of writers spread across London, Chicago, New York, Boston and Berkeley.

It takes all types of talent to build something like this from the ground up. We’re open to and actively looking for physicists, screenwriters, finance majors and historians: all educational backgrounds and experience levels are equally welcome to apply. Whatever you bring to the table, expect to learn a range of practical content production skills on the job.

The Political Columnist Intern will be expected to contribute a minimum of 8-10 hours per week. Commitments beyond this can be discussed.

To apply, please send a very brief introduction and a short writing sample to andrewkingsbury@g.harvard.edu. Samples covering politics are preferred, but any sample will be considered.
