Policy Internship with the California Climate & Agriculture Network

Background: The California Climate and Agriculture Network (CalCAN) is a statewide coalition that advances policy change to realize the powerful climate change solutions offered by sustainable and organic agriculture.

Agriculture is uniquely vulnerable to the predicted changes in climate in the coming years and decades. Agriculture is also well positioned to assist with climate change mitigation through farmland protection, on-farm renewable energy production and other on-farm conservation practices that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and sequester atmospheric carbon. Many of the practices embraced by sustainable and organic farming practitioners offer the best strategies for reducing agriculture’s carbon footprint and assisting with climate change mitigation and adaptation.

We advocate for state and federal policies that increase resources for California farmers and ranchers to assist them with implementation of innovative on-farm conservation practices that mitigate and adapt to climate change while providing other environmental and health co-benefits.
