Global Fellow
DESCRIPTION
Human Connections is a non-profit organization that connects local people with international audiences. Our work starts with our clients — artisans and tradespeople in Latin America. We then invite travelers and students to interact with our clients through day tours, weeklong trips, and internships. Through these educational programs, we provide a platform for local people to share their culture and have agency over their stories. These interactions are also financially rewarding for our clients, as we pay them fairly for their time and help increase their sales. Our goal is to empower local communities while fostering conversations that shift perspectives and increase understanding.
We’re looking for someone who is eager to lend their skills and knowledge to our small, dynamic organization, while witnessing the behind-the-scenes operations of a growing social enterprise in Mexico. Our Global Fellow should be passionate about travel and cross-cultural learning, and have some knowledge of sustainable approaches to development. We would be especially impressed by candidates who can articulate how their specific background and skillset would strengthen our organization and operations, and are open to proposals ranging from administrative support, web management and design, program innovation and more.
A strong candidate will:
- Have a bachelor’s degree in a related field;
- Speak intermediate Spanish;
- Have a strong work ethic;
- Have an interest in international development and/or community building;
- Possess strong organizational and problem solving skills;
- Be a self-motivated, enthusiastic individual, who is passionate about our mission and eager to learn.
We’d be really excited about someone who:
- Is a fluent or native Spanish speaker;
- Has a specific skill or expertise to contribute (e.g. graphic design, accounting, etc.);
- Has experience living, working or travelling in Latin America;
- This fellowship has the potential to lead to longer-term employment opportunities with Human Connections. This is a volunteer position, ideal for recent grads looking to gain professional experience in a dynamic, start-up environment.
Learning Objectives:
- Improve verbal and written, formal and informal Spanish skills;
- Communicate the complexities surrounding development;
- Understand the nuts and bolts and nuances of working for a social enterprise;
- Support HC staff and programs by learning and using: Word Press, Google programs and Xero account management tools.
We are looking for a time commitment of 4-8 months. This position is full-time but will have flexible hours.
