Advanced Planning Internship

The Marin County Community Development Agency's Advanced Planning team is responsible for a diverse array of challenging planning initiatives at the leading edge of professional practice. We are looking for an intern who enjoys a challenge and can make a contribution over the summer, with the possibility of extending the internship into the school year. 

ABOUT THE POSITION

This internship will focus on Sea Level Rise and Climate Change impacts involving land use, environmental, economic and social data, policies and regulations, and the concerns of the County's citizens and other stakeholders
Specific assignments may include, but are not limited to, helping to:
  • Develop an adaptation plan by assisting in identifying workable climate change adaptation measures to respond to defined risks in Marin County's coastal area (see http://www.marinslr.org/ ).
  • Review and report on applicable literature and adaptation projects and programs across the U.S.
  • Conduct comparative analyses to weigh efficacy, equity and environmental suitability of adaptation alternatives.
  • Participate in integrating most promising measures into a long-term plan for resilience developed through the full engagement of affected communities, the larger public and stakeholder organizations, and involved local, regional, state and federal agencies.
  • Carry out additional work which may involve planning for wildfire, heat and other hazards.

ABOUT YOU

We seek graduate students and recent graduates with specific course work or experience in coastal planning or climate change resilience or adaptation in the disciplines of environmental/urban planning/design, environmental studies, GIS, civil engineering, economics, law or a related field, who are willing to commit to a minimum of 20 hours per week. The intern may be able to earn school credit. A competitive candidate will have good verbal and written communication skills, be detail-oriented, adaptable and thrive in a team environment.

ABOUT THE PROCESS

We recognize your time is valuable, so please do not apply if you do not have at least the following required MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
Applicants must be enrolled in an academic, vocational curriculum, or graduate level program at a college or university, or within one year of having graduated.
Additional minimum qualifications may apply depending upon the internship.

Testing and eligible list:  
Depending on the number of qualified applications received, testing may consist of a highly qualified review, supplemental application screening, online assessment, skills testing, practical/performance test, written or oral examination or any combination of these exams to determine which candidate's names may be placed on the eligible list.
