Council Representative - Council President Pro Tem Barbara Bry



Role and Responsibilities


The Office of Councilmember Barbara Bry is looking for a qualified applicant to serve as a Community Representative for the District 1 City Councilmember. Community Representatives serve as liaisons to specific communities within the Council’s purview. This position will attend community meetings, report to and from the community regarding issues relevant to that geographical area, or citywide. This person will be the primary point of contact and therefore responsible for briefing the Councilmember on issues of concern in the community. This is not a policy-related position; however, the candidate must be able to communicate policy matters to the community. The Community Representative position involves research, writing, communication, and stakeholder outreach on various matters and legislative actions.

 

The Community Representative should possess exceptional ability to work with multiple entities, stakeholder groups, advocacy organizations, and constituents. Additionally, the Community Representative will work with other Council Offices, as well as Mayoral and Departmental City Staff on various issues that arise within the City of San Diego.


Qualifications and Education Requirements


  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree
  • Strong command of the written language
  • Experience with public speaking
  • Comprehension of the dynamics of City Council’s role within the City of San Diego and the surrounding region
  • Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Google Docs, and general database management


Preferred Skills


  • Must demonstrate a willingness to serve the public interest
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills
  • Public Service/Customer Service background preferred
  • Must possess the ability to listen to stakeholders and constituents
