Teen Programs Fellowship

Interested in museum education, artmaking, and working with teens?

Join the Palo Alto Art Center team for a fellowship dedicated to the Art Center Teen (ACT) Leadership program. ACT Leadership assists in producing programming that connects teenagers to art and artists. Members plan the Art Center’s teen only event, make and exhibit art, learn about art careers, gain leadership skills, make friends from different schools, and earn service hours. The Fellow will mentor members and assist the Teen Programs Coordinator and Director of Volunteer Engagement with managing the ACT Leadership group’s members, artmaking workshops, and public program planning and implementation.

In this role, you will…
  • Conduct research focused on effective teen programs and teen development
  • Assist staff with managing monthly ACT Leadership meetings
  • Plan and implement activities for the group, including artmaking opportunities and ice breakers
  • Work with teaching artists and staff to plan curriculum for artmaking workshops
  • Mentor all group members, especially those in leadership roles
  • Event planning and implementation
  • Attend and assist with any related project meetings
  • Document activities with photographs and written observations
  • Receive mentorship from Art Center education and volunteer management staff

  • Passionate about working with teens in a museum setting
  • Experience in arts education and working with teens preferred
  • Skilled in time management, prioritization, and research
  • Flexible, able to self-start, and have a passion for the arts and/or creative endeavors
  • Excellent organizational, written communication, time management, and computer skills
  • Comfortable interacting with the public
  • Possess a passion for equity and inclusion
  • Willing to submit to fingerprinting 
  • Graduate-level coursework in museum studies, education or other relevant field of study preferred

When you will work…
This position is approximately 10 hours per week with a flexible schedule. Must be able to work Thursday from 4-6 p.m. once a month and Sunday afternoon once a month.  Fellow will be able to work partially remotely. Start and end dates are flexible depending on the candidate’s schedule.
