Public Programming Assistant (San Francisco and Oakland)
Reports to: Public Programming Manager
Status: Part-time, non-exempt
Location: San Francisco and Oakland
Schedule: Irregular schedule. Typical schedule is three to five days a week, including some evenings and additional hours working from home, as necessary. Minimum 30 hours/week.
Salary: $20/hour, plus benefits
Summary
SPUR is seeking a Public Programming Assistant to work closely with the Public Programming Manager in overseeing forums, events and tours in our San Francisco and Oakland offices. This position will require a flexible candidate comfortable in performing a multitude of tasks. This individual will be expected to engage with SPUR board members, policy staff, guest lecturers and the public.
Major Responsibilities
Manage and Execute SPUR Public Programs
- Manage logistics for public programs in San Francisco and Oakland, including speaker communication, scheduling day-of management
- Act as the main point of contact between the SPUR audience and the organization’s public programs.
- Publicize programs through social media as needed on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram, as needed
- Run pre-registration and on-site of SPUR members and non-members and field questions about the program and organization.
- Fulfill post-program requirements, including the recording of detailed attendance and membership numbers and the uploading of digital content to our speaker presentations to event page for future circulation
Program Calendar Development
- Collaborate with Public Programming Manager and Policy Directors to plan and schedule public programs.
- Create and/or source necessary content for the SPUR website, including representative imagery, event pages and shopping cart items.
- Assist with copy-editing and writing program descriptions.
- Maintain the digital components of SPUR’s programming work, including internal and external calendars.
Track Programming Data
- Use SPUR’s database to track engagement at public programs and suggest how programming can better align with the needs and desires of our audience.
- Track detailed information for each program to be used in an annual, in-depth analysis of program operation, including member and non-member attendance, membership money, drink sales, etc. and compare that information to prior years’ trends to discover opportunities for more successful programming.
Partnership and Typology Research
- Research other events held by other organizations and experiment with new program typologies
- Explore ideas for how to engage a K-12 audience and engage the Young Urbanist programming
- Engage with the Yerba Buena Community Benefit Alliance by attending monthly meetings
- Manage the Culture for Community relationship with SoMA museums to participate in Third Thursdays when possible
Social Media and Web Publication
- Support our advocacy work by writing blogs about our public programs and other work, with direction from the Editorial Director and Publications and Communications Director
Fundraising
- Assist the development of grant, sponsorship, and funding opportunities to support the programming work, as directed by the Foundation Relations Manager and other staff.
Coordination with Volunteer Coordinator and Ambassadors
- Train ambassadors on exhibition display if applicable
- Involve ambassadors in the day-of event needs in San Francisco and Oakland, as needed
- Identify one ambassador per cycle to serve as public engagement lead; they would be the point person for support with website/salesforce tasks, researching new event typologies, distribution of event calendar in the Yerba Buena neighborhood, and other tasks on an as-needed basis
Minimum Qualifications
- Interest in cities, public policy and urban issues
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Highly organized
- Friendly and social professional
- Flexible and adaptable leader
- A/V knowledge and ability to learn on the spot
- Familiarity with Word, Excel, HTML and MacOS
- Volunteer management or other supervision experience preferred
- Willingness to work a sporadic schedule, with occasional evenings
