District Council Coordinator

General Duty Statement

Information about the position
The District Council Coordinator serves as a liaison between the City and the District Councils. The position provides training and support for District Council staff and board members, works to build the capacity of the District Councils, and improve communication and coordination among the City and the District Councils. Provides direct technical assistance to District Councils, serves as a prime liaison with City departments, and participates in community outreach and engagement support activities as assigned.
 
The District Council Coordinator reports to the Director of City Council Operations.

The successful candidate will possess:
  • A knowledge and understanding of City government and nonprofit community organizations
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and coordinate work with diverse and underserved communities
  • Experience in policy and program development and implementation
  • An ability to manage projects across government teams, provide leadership, problem solve and get results
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and manage, within deadlines, projects that have a high degree of community impact and contact
  • An ability to work across government teams and navigate effectively in a complex political environment; an ability to use informal authority to get things done
  • Excellent writing, communication and public relations skills
  • Demonstrated experience working with District Councils and an intimate knowledge of their current collective body of work

Requirements
One of the following requirements must be met:
  1. A combination of six years of progressively responsible, professional experience in public administration, policy analysis, and/or community development, and college level education.
  2. Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Urban Studies, Planning, or a related field and two years of professional experience in public administration, policy analysis, or community development.
  3. Master's Degree in Public Administration, Urban Studies, Planning, or a related field.
Preference will be given to applicants with experience working with District Councils.
