Associate Director of Marketing & Communications

Summary:
The Development & Communications team supports all facets of From the Top’s ongoing operations, including providing support to organizations presenting our radio show, creating all marketing and promotional materials for sales, marketing, fundraising, education, scholarship, and production departments, and conducting all traditional media, email, and social media outreach for the organization.

Reporting to the Director of Development & External Relations, the Associate Director leads the development and execution of From the Top’s marketing & communications efforts, with particular emphasis on the National Tour of NPR’s From the Top, Radio broadcasts, From the Top’s video series, FTT’s social media outlets, and online fundraising initiatives. Additionally, the Associate Director is also responsible for managing From the Top’s marketing and social media projects for internal departments, budget tracking and purchasing decisions, supervision of the Senior Graphic Designer and National Tour Marketing Manager, and supervision of work-study and volunteer staff.

Key areas of responsibility:
Supervisory and Organizational Responsibilities
·        Ensure marketing & PR projects for all From the Top programs/departments are executed in a timely manner, and of the highest quality, and follow From the Top brand and style guidelines
·        In conjunction with Director of Development & External Relations, convene regular meetings of communications/marketing team
·        Coordinate weekly PR calls with National Tour Marketing Manager and PR consultant
·        In conjunction with Director of Development and Communications, develop comprehensive communications annual communications plan; drive and establish key messages and look for emphasis each season.
·        In conjunction with Senior Graphic Designer, manage calendar of design deliverables and ensure timely delivery in keeping with communications calendar.

National Tour and Radio Show
·        Supervise the PR & Marketing efforts for From the Top’s national tour via the National Tour Marketing Manager
·        Supervise the weekly distribution of and promotion of From the Top’s radio show, working with musicians, presenters, and radio partners
·        Oversee all social media efforts leading up to and following both live performances and radio broadcasts

Online Video
·        Provide oversight for distribution of FTT video content
·        Aggressively promote videos through traditional and social media
·        Build relationships with social media influencers/bloggers to encourage promotion of FTT content

Online/social media
·        Manage distribution of From the Top content on all From the Top content channels, including Website, Bog, Podcast, Facebook, Instagram, Email, YouTube, and Twitter
·        Oversee creation of new and interactive social media content with goal of increasing social media following.
·        Research and evaluate potential new platforms, including text communication

Development Communications
·        Support Development department in timely creation and deployment of online fundraising appeals. Craft online giving strategy and messaging.
·        Oversee timely creation of special event-related communications deliverables including registration pages, e-vites, invitations, program books, signage, etc.

Boston-based marketing & PR
·        Oversee PR, marketing, and ticket sales for all Boston-area events (live recordings, gala, education events, auditions, etc.); ensure FTT reaches revenue goals for each performance

Administration
·        Manage department budget and maintain budget tracking document
·        Manage From the Top style and editorial guide, ensuring all staff are educated on organizational standards, and all communication pieces are consistent
·        Supervise one full-time staff member, one part-time staff member, From the Top’s publicist, and intern(s) and/or work-study students

Qualifications and Experience:
·        Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years’ experience in Communications/Marketing or arts administration
·        Experience and/or familiarity with the non-profit arts presenting industry highly recommended
·        Experience with press and media relations preferred
·        A passion for introducing audiences of all ages and backgrounds to the power of music in the hands of young people
·        Ability to work both creatively (brainstorming campaign ideas, for example) and logically (working in a fundraising database)
·        Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to translate those skills to improve processes both internally and with external partners
·        Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, including a friendly yet passionate writing style
·        Familiarity with web-based content management systems required
·        Significant social media knowledge required (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
·        Ability to travel nationally (two to three times a year) and locally; work occasional nights/weekends as required
·        Ability to engage in light physical activity such as lifting boxes weighing up to 20 pounds
·        Valid driver’s license and willingness to drive as needed

Salary and Benefits:
This is a full-time (40 hours/week), exempt, salaried position with benefits.
