Since our founding in 1901, the Toledo Museum of Art has earned a global reputation for the quality of our collection, our innovative and extensive education programs, and our architecturally significant campus.

And thanks to the benevolence of its founders, as well as the continued support of its members, TMA remains a privately endowed, non-profit institution and opens its collection to the public, free of charge.

SUMMARY
This is a paid, one-year fellowship opportunity working extensively with a world class glass and decorative arts collection. Work will include an introduction to the curatorial work conducted at the Museum; assistance with exhibition planning, acquisitions, organization, research and writing related to the Museum’s collection. This is an unparalleled opportunity to work with an internationally acclaimed glass collection.

AREAS OF INTERESTS
Art history, museum studies or related field with focus on decorative arts, especially glass.

RELATIONSHIPS
Mentorship from the curator of glass and decorative arts and other curatorial staff; participation in the curatorial staff meetings; opportunity to collaboration with various departments from across the Museum, visitors and donors. A small stipend is provided for curatorial travel.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES 
  • Active college enrollment status at the graduate level with focus on decorative arts, museum studies, art history or related major. Completion of graduate degree preferred.
  • At least 1-2 years' experience working in a museum
  • Foreign language fluency preferred
  • Familiarity with original research practices
  • Extreme attention to detail; computer savvy; innovative and self-motivated
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

WORK ENVIRONMENT 
Museum setting with standard open concept office work environment; position requires the ability to leverage technology, including smart boards, computer, printer and phone system; the person in this position may be required to communicate with public membership and staff who have inquiries and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
