Summer 2020 - Recreation Internship

Job Overview: The Summer Recreation Intern will aid and assist the Director of Leisure Activities and Recreation Manager with the planning, set up and execution of a variety of summer activities and special events. They will also ensure the security of the guests by verifying guest registration, and assist with supervising the Swimming Pool, Kids Camp, and Fitness areas. The position starts the middle of May 2020 and the intern must commit to 14-16 weeks. Applicants must be available to work all weekends and holidays, including July 4th for the holiday’s special events.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
o   Explain and demonstrate use of apparatus and equipment.
o   Greet guests as they enter the outdoor pool area and check in/out towels to hotel guests.
o   May lead activities for children, teen, and adult programs, and business groups within the hotel, e.g., Group Beach Olympics.
o   Participate in the Children’s Camp Program.
o   Maintain all Fitness area standards including safety standards in accordance with established policies and procedures.
o   Monitor pool area and pool deck for cleanliness and safety issues.
o   Routinely conduct inspections of the Fitness areas and report any maintenance and repair needs to Engineering and Housekeeping as needed.
o   Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communications and coordination with other departments.
o   Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications and Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent plus 6 months experience in a related field. Some College preferred. Must speak fluent English. Other languages preferred. Must have previous cash- handling experience. CPR/First Aid certification preferred.

This job requires ability to perform the following:

o   Standing and moving about the facilities.
o   Demonstrating use of apparatus and equipment.
o   Lifting or pushing 75 pounds.
o   Communication skills are utilized a significant amount of time when interacting with guests and employees; Reading and writing abilities are utilized often when completing paperwork and management reports, interpreting results, giving and receiving instructions, and training.
o   Mathematical skills, including basic math, budgeting, profit/loss concepts, percentages, and variances are utilized frequently.
o   Use of a cash register on a daily basis.
o   Problem solving, reasoning, motivating, organizational and training abilities are used often.
o   Required to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
