Enterprise Change Management Summer Intern

About the Northern Trust Intern Program: 
The Northern Trust Intern Program is a highly competitive ten-week summer program focused on hiring rising senior level undergraduate students. The program provides an opportunity to work in a fast paced and inclusive culture, while utilizing individual skills and abilities to make a positive impact on the company. While interns work directly with their team on day-to-day tasks, they also benefit from having a mentor, participating in professional development activities, and attending senior management informational presentations. Team placements are based on the candidate’s experience, skill set and interest.

Internship Programming:
Our intern program includes many activities to further your professional development and provide you with networking opportunities. Your internship experience will include:
  • Meaningful work assignments to assist with real-world application of learned concepts;
  • An appointed mentor to provide guidance and an understanding of Northern Trust culture;
  • Learning and development opportunities, including business related workshops and weekly “Lunch & Learn” sessions;
  • Professional and social networking opportunities with various Northern Trust employees, including senior leaders;
  • Group presentation to senior managers on an assigned business topic to enhance research and public speaking skills;
  • Goal setting and job expectations discussion along with a performance evaluation; and
  • Community service team-building event (past events have included packing food for a food bank, beautification of a community garden, and building literacy kits for children).

About Enterprise Change Management:
The Enterprise Change Management (ECM) team is comprised of 3 key functional areas: Change Management, Learning & Development, and our Center of Excellence (COE). The ECM team focuses on delivering comprehensive change planning and execution to our key strategic initiatives at Northern Trust. Our aim is to support partners through transitions resulting from technology, process, or organizational improvement initiatives

Examples of prior responsibilities:
  • Support completion of initial assessments of strategic initiatives to understand change scope and potential impact to partners
  • Help develop plans to address learning & development, communication and change management needs for the impacted audience
  • Lead design & development of creative communications content, including video and intranet pages
  • Support development of training content and support feedback/review process with team
  • Join meetings with business stakeholders to understand current status of engagement and support for the initiative
  • Collaborate with project team to support delivery of change deliverables (i.e., training or communications content) to impacted audience
  • Support execution of plans to reinforce changes with business leadership
  • Document and update COE methodology across change, communications and learning & development
  • Assist with designing curriculum for training sessions

Examples of learning objectives (vary by team placement, but may include the following):
  • Serve as an introduction to the Change Management for a large organization undergoing significant transformation efforts.
  • Generate excitement for our team and the work we do by rotating across functional areas within our team

Qualifications (varies by role):
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Learning & Organizational Change, Communications, Psychology, Business Administration/Finance, or Marketing;
  • Rising Senior or have an expected graduation date December 2020 or May 2021;
  • A minimum of a 3.0 cumulative undergraduate GPA;
  • Interest in organizational change management, learning & development or internal communications
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral);
  • Strong time management, organization and project management skills;
  • Proactive personality with the ability to multi-task and manage multiple deadlines;


·       Creativity and strategic thinking skills;
·       People skills and personal courage (participating in meetings, asking questions, etc.);
·       Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, PowerPoint;
·       Experience with Adobe creative cloud and/or video animation tools (preferred but not required);
·       Well-rounded and an appreciation of diversity and inclusion; and
·       Knowledge of and interest in the financial services industry.
