                                                Monday through Thursday, 9 am – 5 pm from
                                                May 26, 2020 through August 6, 2020

DEPARTMENT AND POSITION SUMMARY:
The Gift-In-Kind Process Management team plays a key decision-making and coordinating role, overseeing the supply chain from the offer of product donations from pharmaceutical companies through the distribution of products to our international partners. We use several data and analysis tools to guide our decision-making and to help manage various processes. We are looking for an intern who can help us manage and improve upon at least one of these processes and/or tools and potentially participate in some broader projects across the Operations department as a whole. 
The Gift-In-Kind intern’s role will be to participate in the day-to-day responsibilities of the team, but to dive deeper into at least one of the processes and data tools, and help the team manage sub-sections of information more thoroughly and efficiently. This project is for someone who is interested in how processes fit together and in how to improve upon existing processes. It will be data intensive and require strong excel skills. Familiarity with Access database or comfort with data management tools is essential. The intern will also need strong interpersonal, organization and prioritization skills. The intern will need to ask questions and listen well to teammates and stakeholders to truly understand the process and goals to optimize the tasks. The intern will need to be able to work independently, but also be willing to be pulled off of a given assignment to help with other short-term tasks or projects as needed. 
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Daily/Weekly/Monthly:
  1. Maintenance/updating of multiple databases 
  2.  Run inventory reports and support the shipment building
  3. Participate in weekly department meeting
  4. Assist in analyzing and managing supply chain
Long Term Projects:
  1.  Recommend and implement improvements to one or more processes/tools identified by GIK Associate.

SKILLS:
  1. Current undergraduate student, (preferably rising junior or senior) interested in international humanitarian aid/development, global/public health etc.;
  2. Available for the full dates of internship (5/26/2020 – 8/6/2020);
  3. A complete resume and cover letter; applications without a cover letter will not be considered;
  4. Must apply on Americares website
  5. Record of academic achievement and seriousness of purpose;
  6. Proficiency in Excel, Microsoft Word and Outlook required;
  7. Familiarity with Access or other data management tools;
  8. Interested in how processes fit together and in how to improve upon existing processes;
  9. Team orientation – eager to participate with team in day-to-day work; balanced focus on personal accountability and team goals;
  10. Strong organization skills;
  11. Consistent attention to detail;
  12. Self-starter -- ability to work independently and meet deadlines;
  13. Customer-focused and committed to meeting stakeholder needs;
  14. Prior office/administrative experience preferred;
  15. Career interest in global health, international development, emergency response, and/or international affairs.
 
EXPERIENCE GAINED
  1.  A thorough understanding and appreciation of how products move through the supply chain -- from consideration of offers from donors to distribution to our international and domestic partners.
  2. Management of a project that will require coordination of different stakeholders, tools and data to improve access to information for decision making and reporting.
  3. Hands-on experience of what is required to deliver products to people in need.
