Role Summary/Purpose:
As a Research Engineer - Embedded Software, you will have the opportunity to develop and implement real-time embedded systems for aerospace, power, renewable energy, healthcare, transportation, homeland security, and defense applications as part of a project team. You will collaborate with GE Business units and Government Agencies to propose and execute research programs to solve some of the world’s toughest challenges.
 
Qualifications/Requirements: 
·        Ph.D. in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related disciplines OR Master’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related disciplines with a minimum of 3 years of related experience OR a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related disciplines with a minimum of 5 years of related experience. 
·        Structured programming experience with: VHDL, Verilog, Python, C/C++, and/or MATLAB.  
·        Experience with development of real-time embedded systems, microcontrollers, and FPGAs. 
·        Strong interpersonal and analytical skills. 
·        Ability to work in teams and across business functions. 
·        Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  
·        Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals at the Masters or Bachelors level for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

Desired Characteristics:
·        Experience with System on Chip (CPU/FPGA) development and optimization. 
·        Understanding of embedded security techniques. 
·        Optimization of hypervisor technologies and real-time operation systems. 
·        Experience with QNX RTOS. 
·        Experience with development on neuromorphic computing platforms. 
·        Experience writing/contributing to proposals in response to government solicitations.

Essential Responsibilities: 
You will have the opportunity to: 
 
·        Work with GE businesses and government agencies to develop novel embedded computing concepts from early stage lab demonstrations to fieldable prototypes.  
·        Collaborate with Universities, Industrial consortiums, commercial partners, and others to advance the state of the art in embedded computing.  
·        Publish technical papers, file patents, and contribute to open source communities.  
·        Leverage FPGA design tools to develop and implement advanced embedded designs.  
·        Design, model, simulate, implement, and optimize real-time critical embedded systems.  
·        Prototype solutions for experimentation, validation and customer demonstrations. 
·        Develop execution optimization techniques to accelerate AI & ML algorithms.  
·        Work with hardware suppliers and engineering tool developers to provide the best solutions for the most challenging industrial and defense applications.
