Technology Analyst

Position: Technology Analyst

The Company:
Clark Street Associates is a boutique technology and business consulting firm, located in the heart of Silicon Valley, focused on helping commercial technology companies grow by implementing strategies for working with Federal and state governments, the military & intelligence community, and the VC community. Firm clients operate in the semiconductor, commercial space flight, autonomous vehicles/systems, artificial intelligence, drones, alternative foods, and clean technology spaces.

The Role:
Technology Analysts at Clark Street are not shunted to a back room – you will interact directly with senior level staff at Clark Street and C-level staff at the companies we work with. It is common for our analysts to lead calls with CEO’s or other C-level staff. For the right candidate, this is an opportunity to sharpen your technical and business skills and grow confidence in interfacing with clients and senior leadership. A successful candidate will need to have the right personality and intuition for this.

The Technology Analyst will play a vital role in supporting the various practice groups in their work. This job requires a strong technical foundation, excellent written communication, Excel and PowerPoint skills, the ability to (re)prioritize tasks with minimal direction, and the flexibility to support multiple projects. A background or general interest in technology is helpful as is a fundamental sense of curiosity and willingness to learn. Specific knowledge of, experience, or interest in, the technology fields mentioned above is highly valuable for this position.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide independent technology research and analyses, including qualitative and quantitative analysis, of fundamental scientific principles and their impact on device and systems related to client projects. This will involve learning and explaining technologies in fields that are both familiar and unfamiliar to the Analyst
  • Keep abreast of key technical and technical program developments within the government, including DoD, CIA, NIH, DoE, DHS, FBI, and the Intelligence Community, including providing specific information and data
  • Assist Vice Presidents, Directors, Managers, and Senior Analysts in preparing client deliverables
  • Provide background support for the creation of technical presentations, collateral, concept papers, and white papers for clients and government customers, including background research and the preparation of initial draft deliverables
  • Participate in client meetings and subsequent client strategy discussions, including preparation and follow-up activities
  • Manage meeting schedules and client deliverable schedules to ensure timely execution
  • Assist in planning and executing firm initiatives (e.g. conferences, events, team deliverables)
  • Help prepare Vice Presidents, Directors, Managers, and Senior Analysts for critical federal, state, and international engagements
  • Assist in preparation of grant applications, white papers, and RFP responses
  • Work with a team and/or clients on targeted assignments
  • Assist with the creation of quantitative technical and performance value-propositions for various client technologies in application areas being targeted within the government
  • Prepare internal technical memos and presentations
  • Prepare weekly internal and external client summary reports

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s or Masters degree in a hard-science or engineering (e.g. material sciences, physics, physical chemistry, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and/or similar subject matter)
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills
  • Excellent quantitative analytical skills
  • Ability to think creatively and independently about how to solve new problems or apply technologies to new applications
  • Self-starter with ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to quickly adapt to change
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Strong proficiency with standard business software tools (Word/Excel/PPT, etc.)

Additional Qualifications:
  • A successful candidate is comfortable coloring outside the lines, taking on tasks outside a rigid position description, and helping the team execute creative client strategies
  • An ideal personality will help lower tensions near deadlines—not increase them
  • Comfortable with change and can begin executing product even before all details are known
