Reserve Technician – Visitor Services and Hospitality Support

Job Purpose: This position lives and works on the Reserve to support hospitality services for both public visitors and hosted guests. A majority of this position’s responsibility is to perform daily facility upkeep, hospitality and maintenance such as cleaning, organizing, laundry, and food/beverage service. This position provides administrative support for visitor operations with an emphasis on trouble-shooting, coordination, and execution of systems and processes.

PRIMARY DUTIES:
Daily Hospitality and Maintenance Operations
  • Perform cleaning and services including bedding changes, laundry, dishwashing, dusting, sweeping, mopping, washing, window cleaning, waste removal, etc.
  • Provide meal and beverage services when needed including set-up, service, and clean-up.
  • Inventory, purchase, organization, and storing of supplies.
  • Perform light construction and repairs on structures, facilities, and grounds such as painting, staining, refinishing, hammering, drilling, sanding, etc.
  • Assist in the control of bugs, invasive and noxious weeds including application of chemical spray.
  • Report breakage, damage, and perceived safety concerns.
Visitation Support
  • Act as a welcoming and positive point of contact for visitors and guests such as volunteers, students, researchers, corporate partners, donors, or staff.
  • Orient visitors and respond to inquiries for information.
  • Resolve visitor issues with appropriate escalation.
  • Maintain supply of informative materials and other stock items.
  • Maintain a safe, enjoyable environment for all guests and visitors: enforcing adequate safety protocols related to the facility and reserve operations, visitor use of equipment and facilities, and communication with researchers and staff in the field.
  • Facilitate basic interpretive talks and tours of limited complexity that do not require extensive background knowledge.
  • Operate passenger vehicles and light trucks, and off-road vehicles such as all-terrain vehicles to transport people and things.
Visitation Administration
  • Assist with maintenance of systems and processes such as templates, forms, guidelines, protocols, and procedures.Provide meal and beverage services when needed including set-up, service, and clean-up.
  • Book catering, guide services, presenters, activities, chartered flights, and other visitor related needs.
  • Assist with the coordination repairs of facilities and vehicles.Mowing, watering, digging, weeding, and snow removal.
  • Create and execute guest trip itineraries.
  • Utilize the visitor booking system and maintain visitation calendars.
  • Assist in management of the Enrico Science and Education Center to ensure rules and procedures for use and upkeep are maintained.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Enthusiasm for and positive representation of APR’s mission, values, goals, and culture.
  • Relevant work experience.
  • Ability to work long hours, variable hours, and on-call hours, evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Strong ability to anticipate needs and prioritize with a high level of productivity and follow-through to completion.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Adaptive trouble-shooter with the ability to identify alternative solutions or approaches.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; versatility to interact professionally with staff at all levels of the organization, colleagues, board members, volunteers, vendors, and donors positively and professionally.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as well as with a great deal of autonomy including working independently without supervision.
  • Ability to appropriately handle confidential and sensitive information with a high degree of discretion.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, email and Internet research.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; ability to drive on poorly maintained roads and in various weather conditions to get to work areas, and ability to drive long distances and travel between locations and sites.
  • Ability to use chemical products such as cleaners, disinfectants, degreasers, solvents, etc.
  • Ability to stand, squat, kneel, bend, stoop, reach, climb stairs, and work from a ladder, including regularly lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to use maintenance tools and equipment such as hand tools and power tools.
  • CPR, AED and first aid training (provided).
  • Montana Food Safety and Montana Alcohol Server Certification (provided).
  • Must be willing and able to work evenings and weekends and long work days.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from Reserve.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Job position requires laborious work and regular physical exertion in variable and possibly extreme weather conditions at remote and isolated locations and on potentially difficult and hazardous terrain. Work requires exposure to and use of hazardous equipment and tools, cleaning chemicals and contaminants such as garbage. Extensive driving is required including on poorly maintained or weather affected roads. This position requires varied work hours including long hours and evening and weekend hours.
