Overview:


Explore, design, and prototype cutting edge sensing technologies in Apple products.
The Touch and sensing hardware team is responsible for providing solutions and technologies that make products like  Watch, iPad, iPhone, and MacBook Pro the best in class. The team’s vision and skills help enable the world’s best user experiences to a diverse world population. Our team is seeking candidates to join us at Apple Park in Cupertino, CA to explore the opportunities afforded by ultrasonic sensing. In tandem with other sensing modalities like optical, capacitive, and RF, ultrasonic sensing may enable a whole new class of compelling experiences.

Responsibilities:


You’ll be responsible for designing, modeling, and simulating ultrasonic systems. Your toolbox should include a wide variety of tools from analytic, finite element analysis, to experimental. Participate in brainstorms, develop fast proof of concept prototypes, and define effective figure of merits to compare between a wide swath of sensing architectures. Use your knowledge of piezoelectric transducer materials, technologies, and methodologies to inform, shape, and advance the exploration. You will be expected to document and professionally present your work to an audience with a very diverse background from science, health, and engineering to the liberal arts.



Job Requirements:


  •  BS (required), or MSc/PhD (preferred) in relevant field such as Acoustics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or Mathematics.
  • Hands-on experience with ultrasonic sensing system design
  • Deep expertise in foundations and cutting edge knowledge of ultrasonic imaging, beam forming, wave propagation, and interaction in fluids and solids
  • Proficiency with signal processing and analysis techniques in both time and frequency domains
  • Knowledge of conventional piezoelectric materials and designs such as: PZT, Aluminum Nitride, PVDF, pMUT, cMUT
  • Proficiency in software and simulation tools such as MATLAB, COMSOL, OnScale
  • Exposure to equipment such as ultrasonic pulsers and receivers, impedance analyzers, laser doppler vibrometers
  • Team player who is able to conduct independent high-quality work in a fast-paced environment
