Strategy & Corporate Development Intern

Zymergen’s Strategy and Corporate Development team partners with Zymergen’s CEO and CFO to craft the company’s long-term strategy and execute on special projects critical to its success. Our portfolio covers strategic planning, fundraising, partnerships / M&A and investor relations. Strategy and Corporate Development interns will gain exposure to business strategy and managerial decision-making in a fast-paced start-up environment with an all-star team of former consultants and investors.

Job Description and Focus Areas
The experience can be tailored to the intern’s experience and interests, but interns will be expected to scope and execute on one major project over the summer that delivers value to Zymergen culminating in a presentation to the Executive Team. Areas of focus may include:

  • Developing investment theses and identifying targets for acquisition / partnerships
  • Pitching and managing a major internal strategic initiatives (e.g. operational improvement, commercial strategy or platform development)
  • Deep dives on specific markets or technical fields of-interest to Zymergen and developing proposals for how to capture value

Qualifications/Experience
Candidates currently pursuing an MBA or Master’s degree in biology, chemistry, engineering, data science or other quantitative discipline with one or more semesters/quarters remaining after the internship concludes. Candidates should have a working proficiency in financial modeling in Excel, developing professional Powerpoint presentations, and presenting to senior leadership. Ideal candidates would be well-versed in both business and science (e.g. STEM major, or working experience in a highly technical field). Prior experience or a strong interest in consulting or investing is beneficial, but not required. Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We are not able to sponsor individuals for employment visas for this job.
