Hardware - Energy Projects Cellular Solutions Internship (Fall 2020)

Internship Program at Tesla
The University Recruiting Team is driven by the passion to recognize emerging talent. Our year around program places the best students in positions that they will grow both technically and personally through their experience working closely with their Manager, Mentor, and team. We are dedicated to providing an experience that allows for the intern to experience life at Tesla by given them projects that are critical to their team’s success. Instead of going on coffee runs and making copies, you’ll be seated at the table making critical decisions that will influence not only your team, but the overall achievement of Tesla’s mission.

About the Team
The Tesla Energy Projects team is responsible for the successful deployment of Tesla’s cutting edge Industrial Energy Storage Systems. We’re looking for a driven, motivated and collaborative intern to join us to help accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy. As part of the team, you will work across the organization to solve problems and ensure the success of our products.

What to Expect
Tesla’s Energy Storage Systems are innovative connected devices. Operations, service, data analytics; all of these vital functions utilize cellular connections to transmit information.

Understanding the cellular connection at a site is vital to ensuring the project success. The internship will focus on:
  • Designing a process for evaluating cellular connection strength and bandwidth at a location. This task has two main components:
  • Design and manufacture a cellular test kit using off the shelf components (Linux based computer, battery pack, packaging). Create automated Linux-based scripting to evaluate the cellular connection to the device.
  • Design a procedure to evaluate the expected cellular strength at a site remotely. Utilize existing freely available databases, websites and other tools to develop a procedure to estimate the cellular connection at a given location

Requirements
  • Currently working towards a degree in a relevant program such as Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or similar. Coursework in Telecommunications related topics preferred.
