Aviation Intern

ABOUT THIS POSITION

This 18-month internship program provides real world experience in operating and maintaining one of the busiest airports in the world. The successful intern will receive extensive training and gain valuable aviation industry experience by completing administrative and operational projects in the numerous divisions involved in operating Sky Harbor International Airport.
The Aviation Department currently has one vacancy.
The essential or major duties of this position are:
  • Prepare and interact with Phoenix Aviation Advisory Board meetings and subcommittee meetings, including preparation of materials and meeting minutes. 
  • Interact with the Aviation Director’s Office, Aviation Divisions, Aviation Advisory Board, community groups and customers.
  • Assist with the development of presentations and ensure the accuracy of presentation content. Assist with writing reports for management review and approval.
  • Conduct research and write briefing sheets, reports and letters concerning surveys and operation studies.
  • Interact with the Aviation Director’s Office, Aviation Divisions, Aviation Advisory Board, community groups and customers.
In addition to these responsibilities, the successful intern will also rotate between some Aviation Divisions. These divisions will be chosen based on intern interest and project availability, allowing for varying and diverse assignments.
This recruitment and any interview process as a result of this recruitment may be used by multiple hiring managers and multiple departments throughout the City to fill any related current or future vacancies; other recruitments and appropriate eligible lists may also be considered.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with Federal Aviation Administration rules, regulations, and guidelines.
  • A strong interest in the aviation industry.
SALARY
$17.00 (minimum) - $25.78 (maximum) hourly / $35,360 - $53,622

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in airport/aviation management, aeronautical science, aeronautics, air traffic management, public administration, business administration, political science, or other related degree.
  • Working irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS – The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
  • Knowledge and experience with other governmental agencies.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
