Middle School Math Teacher

POSITION SUMMARY
 
Position is responsible for creating a classroom environment that develops in each student skills and subject matter that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible members of society. The math teacher will foster and develop special talents of students in the field of Math to prepare each student for high school and college readiness. The Math teacher would work closely with one additional Math teacher as well as the rest of the Middle School Team.    

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
 
  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited College or University
  • Must meet Credentialed requirements by one of the following:
  • Colorado Teacher’s Certification in Secondary Education (7-12) OR
  • Passing score on the Generalist examination OR
  • Having obtained 36 university credits in the specific teaching area
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred but not required

  • Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and student assessment/testing data

  • Knowledge of Colorado Academic Standards and board approved curriculum

 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Actual duties and responsibilities may vary depending upon building assignments and other factors.
 
  1.  Instructs students in Math content with stated objectives that prepare students to master grade level standards. 
  2. Instructs students using strategies conducive to dual-language immersion and second language acquisition, such as sheltered instruction, and cooperative learning. 
  3. Establish and implement, in a positive and supportive manner, classroom policies and procedures governing student behavior and conduct; provide guidance, counseling, and discipline to encourage students to meet standards of achievement and conduct; make referrals for assistance where appropriate.
  4. Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the school’s instructional philosophy and congruent with Gomez and Gomez Dual Language methodology
  5. Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best use the available time for instruction and to actively engage students. 
  6. Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, parent contact forms, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary. 
  7. Confer with students, parents or guardians, and other staff, in an open and positive manner to provide guidance and evaluation and encouragement of student achievement through conferences and other means. 
  8.  Administers variety of local, district, or state assessments.  
  9. Select appropriate books, media and instructional resources that will enhance student learning experiences
  10. Models non discriminatory practices in all activities. 


OTHER DUTIES
  1.  Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings and other professional activities. 
  2. Administer and analyze various forms of formative data; participate in weekly data meetings with grade-level team.
  3. Participates in various student and parent activities which occur in school including student clubs, math and literacy nights and after-school activities. 
  4. Act in an advisory capacity to a small group of students, acting as a mentor and an anchor for students, provide guidance and feedback to students and their families.
  5. Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator. 

Salary starts at $38,000 and is adjusted based on previous teaching experience and college credits
