Research Analyst

The Research Analyst is responsible for assisting with the coordination, development, implementation, and analysis of educational research related to Parkland College. The Research Analyst coordinates the completion of and/or produces work pertaining to college business. The Research Analyst also assists in the technical development and presentations associated with Institutional Research.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Generate and submit Federal, State, and compliance data / reports in an accurate and timely manner. This includes communicating with US Department of Education, Illinois Community College Board and, the Higher Learning Commission. 
  • Perform data requests pertaining to college business for information-based decision making.
  • Use statistical software (SPSS) programming for data management tasks and statistical analysis.
  • Develop research questions; design and evaluate research derived from these questions.
  • Work with external constituents, administration, employees, and students to determine research needs and assessment plans. 
  • Analyze data, prepare interpretative reports for, and present results administration, faculty, and staff.
  • Work with business intelligence software/ technology to develop college dashboards and related reports.
  • Monitor and evaluate information needs and project progress.
  • Develop new databases to meet the college’s research needs and monitor for institutional trends.
  • Maintain and improve the integrity and quality of data within the research databases.
  • Design and implement college surveys used for data collection from students, employees, and alumni.
  • Assist in maintaining the department web site.
  • Serve on the Institution Review Board by reviewing research proposals and ensuring adherence to college policies.
  • Developing, implement, analyze, and present data/reports on academic and institutional assessment.
  • Work on large college-wide initiatives such a NCCBP, VFA, and consultant projects.  
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:  
  • Master’s degree in a social or behavioral science, education or statistics; or a bachelor’s degree with two years of relevant experience in social or behavioral science, education, or statistics; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with survey research including survey design, analysis and report generation. 
  • Experience with data management and data analysis.
  • Verbal, mathematical, and organizational abilities sufficient to design studies, construct survey instruments, collect and analyze data, prepare reports, and perform other related duties as necessary.
  • Ability to use critical thinking and problem solving skills to independently develop and complete data analysis, research, and assessment.
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and SPSS statistical software. If interviewed, applicants will be required to complete an exercise focusing on the use of SPSS syntax to demonstrate proficiency. 
  • Ability to learn the student information system as well as other college software as technology changes.
