Air Liquide R&D centers, hosting a wide range of competencies, support the Group in achieving the highest level of excellence in the technologies it provides to its customers. The Delaware Research and Technology Center (DRTC) in Newark, DE provides innovation and technical support to Air Liquide’s businesses and markets in the Americas and worldwide.
Our Delaware Innovation Campus, inaugurated in 2007, leads research and technology initiatives in 8 scientific and engineering disciplines. With researchers from 21 different countries, the Center had the distinction of being named to the 2015 Philly Top Workplaces by the Philadelphia Inquirer and philly.com and cited in 2016 by the Delaware Business Times as one of “13 Cool Companies in Delaware.” In 2017 we celebrated our 10th anniversary in Delaware and over 3,600 days without a recordable accident! Job Responsibilities

The R&D Data Science group at Air Liquide has an opening for a Data Science Intern for Advanced Doctoral Candidates in Economics. The intern will have the opportunity to work with large datasets generated while serving more than one million industrial customers. The candidate should be All-But-Dissertation (ABD) with specialization in Empirical Industrial Organizations, Computational Economics, Econometrics, Applied Microeconomics or Quantitative Marketing looking for proprietary data for his or her doctoral thesis. Excellent candidates who demonstrate impactful research may be offered a permanent position in the Group.


Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with business units to generate insights on our customers using a wide variety of statistical methods and models.
  • Support the deployment of models in the business units.
  • Work with IT and external organizations to collect online/offline data.
  • Publish research in internal reports, at conferences and peer-reviewed journals

Qualifications & Competencies

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 
  • ABD in Economics with field specialization in two of the following three areas: Empirical Industrial Organizations, Computational Economics, Applied Microeconomics and Econometrics. You must have passed your generals and oral exam. 
  • Experience with structural estimations and model development
  • Experience, or strong desire to learn, managing large datasets (cleaning, summarizing, sampling, processing)
  • Experience, or strong desire to learn, advanced computational techniques and machine learning
  • Programming skills in Python
  • Research work of limited scope demonstrating relevant technical capabilities
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge of Java, Javascript 
  • Experience in Adobe marketing cloud and SQL
 
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
  •  Demonstrates strong process and operational safety behavior at all times. 
  •  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (written and oral)
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and international teams
