Data Engineering Internship - Summer 2020

Introduction:
We are a small team that is building products that will change the way political campaigns are run for greater success by Democrats. Because of our size and ambition, we are looking for team members that are willing to jump in, ask questions, learn, and build solutions.

As a Data Intern you will be responsible for assisting in data integration from various sources, ensuring that our data is clean and easily usable, and designing key analysis that will inform how we judge our company’s products and outreach efforts. Previous experience in SQL-based analysis, data cleaning and maintenance, and designing QA processes will contribute to your success as an intern at Civitech.

In this position you will work for our Data Architect, and will work closely with our Engineering and Client Success teams.

About our Data Team: 
The Data Team is focused on building the most robust database of information about voting-eligible adults in the United States in the country. Our datasets cover voter registrations, voter history, statistical scores, contact information, campaign goals, campaign actions, mail tracking, web tracking, advanced address & geocode processes, election-related maps, election results, and more. We support our Engineering team by building rich, performant data sets for use by all of our front end products. We also perform analyses to help guide decisions for our C-suite and client-facing teammates and gauge key performance metrics.

What you’ll do:
  • Review and refine logic to check and improve data quality throughout our systems
  • Perform ad hoc loading and matching of data from external organizations
  • Contribute to ad hoc data analysis with statistical rigor
  • Create, test, and extend automation of data processing pipelines
  • Utilize your unique talents for any possible extra awesomeness related to our mission

  • You are skilled at solving problems, troubleshooting, debugging, and collaborating with a team to build and constantly improve upon our current systems.
  • Excited to learn new technologies and apply them to new projects.
  • Demonstrated interest in progressive politics 

Required Technical and Professional Expertise:
  • STEM focused major or comparable experience in data analysis
  • Programming coursework or professional experience (SQL preferred, R and Python also considered).

Program Information:
  • This is a paid internship program, and interns will be compensated $2700/month for their work.
  • This program lasts 8-12 weeks, with most interns beginning May 25, 2020 and completing their internship in August. We are flexible and can adjust start and end dates to work with our interns academic calendar.
  • This is a multi-disciplinary program. While you will be stationed with one of our teams, you will undertake projects alongside other teams throughout the course of your internship. 
  • You will do real work that will contribute to our mission to build technology that empowers people to run for office, register voters, and win elections.
  • You will get a chance to spend part of your time working with campaigns. It’s 2020, and a great time to be supporting Democrats in Texas!
  • This program is for any college student who wants to put their skills and talents to use building technology that helps people run smarter campaigns and solve problems in our current political ecosystem at scale.
