Program Evaluation & Implementation Fellow - Opportunity on Deck

Location: Urbandale, IA

Compensation: $575/week stipend

Future Leaders in Action Overview:
Future Leaders in Action (FLIA) cultivates leaders and strengthens youth-oriented nonprofits through a fellowship program. Fellows, individuals interested in entering the social sector, work on-site full-time at a partner nonprofit to develop or implement a pre-determined enrichment program. Throughout the fellowship, fellows gain various professional skills including fundraising, communication, program development, in a fast-paced, hands-on learning environment.
Opportunity on Deck Overview:
Opportunity on Deck provides athletic programming through clinics and leagues to low-income areas with children and families who don’t have the resources to play in traditional leagues. They utilize no-cost team athletics to help build participants’ self-confidence, strengthen the peer relationships in their schools, address diversity, provide access to positive mentors, and build life-long values and skills that have opened up other positive opportunities later in life. Opportunity on Deck’s sports programs serve 1st - 6th grade students and their More Than Sports program serves 4th - 9th grade students who do not have the resources to get involved in traditional leadership development activities.
Position Overview and Responsibilities:
You will …
  • Support and promote the implementation and evaluation of program and curriculum
  • Attend and facilitate program practices and clinics 
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of current programs and curriculum
  • Analyze current youth-based sport opportunities, outline detail, provide direction and suggest new ideas 
  • Assist in the enhancement of Opportunity on Deck’s helping update branding to reflect organizational changes
  • Attend pre-fellowship training retreat from May 26-29, 2020 (expenses covered)
  • Actively participate in weekly FLIA professional development responsibilities including check-in call.
By the end of the fellowship, you will have … 
  • Collected 15 surveys and evaluations from stakeholders
  • Implemented newly developed curriculum for coaches and participants 
  • Helped develop marketing materials for all five summer programs 
  • Fundraised $500 (with guidance and support from FLIA)
  • Written two blog articles
  • Completed final report and video
