Manufacturing Design Engineer

Job Description:
Needs to sit at the Ottumwa factory. Experience with Creo Parametric required. Tool design experience required.
Education Preferred: - Degree in an Engineering/Technology discipline or equivalent experience.
Must Haves: 
1. Creo Parametric’s experience 
2. Tool design experience 
3. Ability to work in a team environment

1st Shift, 40 hours per week, no OT expected

This contingent worker will not be driving a Deere Vehicle while on assignment at Deere.
MAJOR PURPOSE : Plans, coordinates, develops and procures new concepts and designs for tooling to facilitate the implementation of new and revised products into the core manufacturing processes. Applies necessary Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing and uses technical judgment and past experience to evaluate various designs while maintaining and supporting current operations. The work typically involves moderately complex tools and simple stampings, fixtures, gauges, assemblies and machines, including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic engineering. This role searches and implements new technologies to reduce costs and improve quality, participates in design reviews and modifies design based on feedback, supports and coordinates with the craftsmen building the tools and gauges, and manages the tooling database library. Manages in-house tool design and the design and build of tooling by outside suppliers to provide the more complex tooling required to manufacture product.Provides consultation and recommendations to less-experienced designers and engineers.

MAJOR DUTIES : Description of the major duties performed in this job.
 
• Supports new product programs by providing input on design for manufacturability and providing budgetary estimates for tooling costs for Authority for Expenditures (AFEs).

• Identifies more efficient processes for parts manufacturing in order to reduce cost and lead times and implements cost reduction and quality improvement ideas through internal and/or external sources.

• Provides leadership in manufacturing support and troubleshooting of production equipment to support production, manufacturing and maintenance operations. Responds to critical production situations affecting manufacturing and/or distribution operations.

• Assists internal and external sources in the development and implementation of new manufacturing processes and technology for the less complex tools and fixtures for a new product program.
