Associate Director - Public Equity Investments
UTIMCO manages a global Public Equity portfolio with an aggregate $11 billion invested with external public equity managers. We are currently looking for a highly motivated investment professional to join our 7-person public markets team as a generalist, assisting with both the Developed Markets and Emerging Markets equity portfolios. The Associate Director will be responsible for monitoring current relationships, sourcing and evaluating potential investment opportunities, and executing projects to help monitor managers and the portfolio.
Broad responsibilities include:
- Manage relationships via monitoring individual manager performance and risk on a regular basis, building strong relationships with each manager, and conducting periodic due diligence updates and on-site visits with key investment and operations personnel
- Source and assess new investment opportunities by establishing trusted industry contacts, holding meetings with prospective funds, and performing initial qualitative and quantitative analysis
- Lead comprehensive due diligence process for evaluating prospective mangers and co-investment opportunities (including in-depth analysis of investment strategy, performance and risk analysis, manager strengths and weaknesses, risk management, operations, reference checks, evaluation of service providers, and thorough review of relevant legal documents with input from legal counsel)
- Lead negotiation of investment terms with new and existing managers by working with legal counsel
- Work with team to prepare reports for presentation internally and to the Board
- Mentor Analysts and Interns
- Collaborate with other UTIMCO teams including risk management, asset allocation, hedge funds, fixed income, real return, and private equity
- Maintain current knowledge of markets by monitoring current financial publications, as well as leveraging personal contacts with outside research/industry professionals and conducting ad hoc research as necessary
- Communicate effectively with other team members and UTIMCO staff, and promote a true team atmosphere
Requirements:
- 7-9 years of professional experience in investment-related field
- 4+ years evaluating and investing in public equity and/or hedge funds
- Undergraduate degree from a reputable institution, preferably in finance or accounting
- Unquestioned honesty, integrity, and transparency
- Cultural fit in a respectful, collegial, and collaborative environment
- Exceptional quantitative skills to evaluate fund and portfolio performance and risk
- Well-versed in Microsoft Excel and in financial applications (e.g. Bloomberg, Factset)
- Ability to represent UTIMCO in the marketplace with the highest professionalism
- Superior commercial judgment, a track record of success, and intellectual curiosity
- Strong analytical, problem solving, communication, writing, presentation and organizational skills
- Willingness and ability to engage in domestic and international travel
- Constructive and team-oriented attitude committed to consistently doing what is best for the organization
Preferred Qualifications:
- CFA and/or MBA
- Investment management, public markets, research/trading, investment banking, and/or corporate finance experience is preferred
