Remote Sensing Post-Doctoral Fellowship

The Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) is located on Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. Fundamental to the its mission, the AFIT Graduate School executes STEM-related research and development in a number of disciplines including aeronautics & astronautics, engineering physics, computer & electrical engineering, mathematics & statistics, operations research, and systems engineering. Graduate school faculty conduct sponsored research in these disciplines in support of numerous Air Force, DoD and US federal organizations. For more information, visit us at https://www.afit.edu/ENR.

Under the guidance of a mentor, the Postdoctoral Fellow will collaborate with AFIT faculty and researchers to take experimental measurements that support a variety of Department of Defense (DOD) and Intelligence Community (IC) sponsors. This opportunity has two top-level objectives: 1) expose post-doc to DOD and IC research endeavors, organizations and capabilities, and 2) provide post-doc with relevant R&D experience by applying his/her technical skills to tackle real-world research problems in the field of remote sensing.

Specifically, the post-doc participant will engage in the operation of cameras, spectrometers, and hyperspectral imagers, as well as other novel sensors operating in the visible and infrared. The fellow will calibrate systems, collect images and spectral data, and process the data using either existing algorithms or algorithms they develop. The post-doc may lead preparation for and conduct tests in remote locations. The fellow will write test plans and test reports for sponsor-funded tests. In addition, they will contribute to research in the exploitation of remote sensed data (such as detection of dim signals, automated target recognition, or pattern of life trending), and data collection via modeling and simulation.
