Data Science Intern, Center for Global Security and Stabilization

About the Position

As a part of the Center for Global Security and Stabilization, the Data Science Intern provides top-notch customer service to internal and to external stakeholders. The Data Science Intern will work with support research, partnering, and direct assistance in applying machine learning and data science to our ongoing activities and proposal efforts. This is an opportunity to gain an understanding of the complexities involved in the field of international development while working in a fast-paced environment. This is a part-time position (20 hours/week) and may be based remotely.


Responsibilities

  • Contribute to programming that uses data science to detect and combat disinformation
  • Conduct research on application of data science to stabilization and security sector reform programming across U.S. government clients in development, defense, and diplomacy
  • Support Dexis operating units in outreach and vetting of industry partners in machine learning, artificial intelligence, and data visualization
  • Support programs and proposals in machine learning and data visualization applications
  • Conduct research on machine learning/AI in predictive analytics for stabilization programming
  • Under the direction of Center staff, support departmental and corporate projects
  • Upload and file documents in Dexis’ internal systems
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Qualifications

 Minimum Requirements:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint.
  • Strong administrative, organizational and coordination skills.
  • Troubleshooting skills with an effective customer service orientation.
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to compile, analyze and synthesize data into a usable format.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-starter with diligent work ethic and proven dependability.
  • Demonstrated outstanding level of professionalism in providing administrative support, including ability to exercise good judgment, discretion, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Sound business ethics, including the protection of proprietary and confidential information

Preferred Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree (completed or in process) in Data Science, Programming, Statistics or related field
  • Ability to apply machine learning techniques, building models (statistical, mathematical, simulation, etc.) in programming languages such as R or Python
  • Knowledge of programming, statistics, machine learning, and data visualization software and application for potential international development and foreign assistance projects.
  • Ability to communicate analysis and results clearly and concisely
  • Experience with U.S. Government contracts, particularly USAID, Department of State, and/or Department of Defense preferred
