Planning Services Senior Analyst
The Planning Services Senior Analyst takes a lead role within the Planning Services team to support Air, Ocean and Surface network planning strategies. He/She is responsible for managing strategic relationships within the enterprise relating to ongoing, multi-year programs relevant to a business unit's transportation network.
The Planning Services Senior Analyst deploys and uses decision support tools by leveraging advanced problem solving techniques and technology to provide thought leadership for improved network effectiveness across multiple phases. This position leads complex process development or improvement and involvement in strategic communication with stakeholders. The Planning Services Senior Analyst develops and enhances complex models and processes supporting UPS corporate vision to reduce transportation network cost, increase network efficiency and grow profitable revenue.
The Planning Services Senior Analyst also identifies data requirements for project scope to determine project responsibilities, teammates, customers and researches background information to create project baselines used for identifying initial steps and project outcomes. He/She communicates process changes to UPS stakeholders to maintain a consistent, global understanding of plan changes within the organization. Analyzes optimization-modeling needs to determine data necessary to feed models and creates draft data models to meet the needs of optimization tools.
The Planning Services Senior Analyst also identifies areas of improvement that have a high impact on the forecast process to direct development efforts to the proper areas, in addition to evaluating and critiquing the current forecasting process to ascertain methods for improving the process.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Defines and develops required planner toolsets to strategically align data with planning processes
- Ensures processes are documented in proper formation to share, improve, and duplicate processes over time
- Finalizes data sets for optimization tools to deliver complete sets of data optimization tools
- Applies simulation techniques and develops simulation models for business problems
- Communicates data to team and UPS stakeholders to ensure business units are met
- Acts as liaison to UPS functional groups to coordinate key issues in transportation network and schedule plans
- Examines solutions to align UPS visions with business unit needs and to determine best resolutions for transportation plan implementations
- Resolves conflicts and clarifies communications with UPS stakeholders to maintain program alignment with corporate goals
Knowledge and Skills
- Leverages technological knowledge to achieve business objectives; resolves technological issues impeding work; adapts technological information, facts, or data to varying situations or groups; recommends changes to technological approach based upon knowledge of trends and best practices
- Proficient with MS Office Suite
- Proficient with programming languages such as SQL, Oracle and Python
- Proficient with database visualization tool such as Power BI
- Demonstrates some advanced knowledge of database design principles; works with users to define requirements with minimal oversight from others; defines user rights; describes security measures, such as passwords, firewalls, and access rights based on user requirements; describes information organization, such as classes, links, records, and fields
- Follows standard guidelines to update existing standards; provides input into developing data standards with some assistance from others; reviews customer data to ensure consistent and widespread use of data standards
- Develops and executes project management plans for basic projects of short duration requiring limited coordination and resources; supports initiatives with well-defined project needs and cross-functional roles/responsibilities throughout the project life cycle; manages minimal organizational resistance to cross-functional project demands; employs project management tools and technology appropriately
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of techniques for soliciting and gathering information; identifies appropriate sources of information
