Operations Research Analyst

The employee will serve as an Operations Research Analyst in the Aviation Facilities and Business Services Division. The Analyst supports the formulation, coordination, and direction of infrastructure projects at FAA facilities to support the National Airspace System (NAS) modernization strategy and achieve efficient air traffic control systems and operations. 
As an Operations Research Analyst, you will:
  • Utilize various methods of problem solving and work to correct deficiencies or improve the performance of system, processes and operations.
  • Provide analytical support to the implication activities associated with aviation facility replacement and sustainment projects.
  • Conduct or assist in conducting studies or participates on various study project teams. Determines data sources, selects and modifies techniques for data processing and analysis and plans the method of presentation.
  • Provide or assist in providing technical advice on planning, designing, developing and conducting a variety of transportation safety program initiatives and special purpose studies including designing and developing information systems in support of the safety mission.
  • Support multi-disciplinary teams in a wide range of safety analysis related assignments and a wide variety of technical disciplines and applications such as regulatory analysis, safety and risk analysis
  • Serve as a member of a team to support the development of system architecture assessments to define candidate facility system architectures, identify technical issues and risk associated with each alternative, identify system interdependencies within the overall National Airspace System (NAS) architecture and determine the most promising candidate for implementation.
The ideal candidate possesses a background in operations research, data science, computer science, mathematics, and/or engineering. Preferred technical skills include transportation analysis, environmental assessment, sustainment analysis, data modeling, object-oriented programming, system engineering, requirements development, and Extensible Markup Language (XML) and web development. While a background in aviation, air traffic management, and/or maintenance operations is desired, it is not mandatory, as the division has access to numerous subject matter experts and the required knowledge can be gained on-the-job.
