Logistics Specialist

Position Summary:
Support both outbound route planning and inbound freight management for the Kroger Transportation Center (KTC). Manage costs and revenue for managed freight and route all distribution center and manufacturing store orders to ensure on-time delivery of product. Communicate with various business partners and provide staff support and technical assistance to the KTC and affiliated divisions. Demonstrate the company’s core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion and safety.
Essential Job Functions:
• Procure freight, identify transportation requirements, handle freight bid negotiations and make carrier selection
• Establish routing guides for all new inbound business to ensure lowest cost and greatest revenue
while maintaining excellent service
• Review costs and profitability on Kroger managed lanes regularly
• Audit freight payment process for accuracy and timeliness through current freight payment systems
• Maintain the Transportation Management Systems (TMS)
• Prepare reports and explain financial performance related to managed freight
• Promote movement of inbound freight on the company’s available fleet resources
• Coach and mentor KTC staff in performance of duties; provide transportation supervisor with
feedback
• Tender freight orders to preferred company carriers
• Monitor inbound TMS to ensure carrier acceptance and rating of shipments
• Plan all outbound store delivery orders while meeting precise delivery times (PDTs), maximizing
trailer cube and minimizing miles driven while also reducing empty miles
• Plan, schedule, and route vendor pickups as direct store delivery backhaul returns
• Maintain accurate route plan data from daily routing sessions and report results
• Review transportation metrics to suggest and implement steps to achieve improvements
• Perform “what if” routing analysis and continually strive to find efficient ways to route and reduce
transportation costs
• Maintain ability to work various shifts, including weekends, nights and holidays

Minimum Position Qualifications/Education:
• College Degree
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Good organizational and time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
• Highly analytical with ability to understand/resolve complex operational issues involving numerous, ever-changing variables and constraints
• Ability to identify new methods/processes, determine impact and develop implementation plan
• Ability to identify/communicate system issues quickly and effectively
Desired Previous Job Experience:
• Proficient in TMS, specific to JDA fleet management, One Network and i-Trade, procurement
applications and Kroger web applications
• Team oriented leadership experience
• Experience in warehouse shipping/receiving, supply chain, general freight hauling, direct store
delivery and backhauling transportation operations
