Communications and Events Intern, Spring 2021

We are seeking an energetic, creative, and people-oriented individual to join our development team. In this position, you will learn the ins and outs of planning major events, processing field stories, and cultivating relationships with partners, donors, and volunteers.

Key Responsibilities:
Event Planning
  • Assist in all aspects of planning for the 2019 Planting Hope Gala
  • Marketing & Promotion
  • Auction support & thank yous
  • Vendor & entertainment coordination
  • Design elements
  • Gala committee meetings
  • Volunteer leadership
  • Assist in planning and supporting national events

Field Story Reporting
  • Upload community updates to Story Database
  • Translate and organize stories
  • Assist with writing/editing updates with testimonies from field partners
  • Assist in designing updates to be sent

Donor Cultivation
  • Assist Communications & Events specialist in establishing and maintaining relationships
  • Shadow in meetings
  • Assist in calling campaigns
  • Seek out and coordinate opportunities for engagement
  • Provide frequent and timely thank yous
  • Track progress on interactions and build support from this group

Young Advisory board and volunteer Support
  • Engage in organizational conversations, plan unique engagements and events, equip with action steps
  • Recruit, train, and schedule volunteers at various events
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Communications & Events Specialist


COMPENSATION
This is an unpaid internship. Through this internship, you will gain the value of hands-on experience working closely with a close-knit team who is inspired to achieve a lasting solution to rural poverty. We can also coordinate with your institution to offer academic credit for your experience.

COMMITMENT
This is a part-time internship that requires you to be in our sunny, San Diego office 12-15 hours per week for the duration of the internship. Hours and start/end dates are flexible.

ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE
Plant With Purpose, a Christian international development organization, reverses deforestation and poverty around the world by transforming the lives of the rural poor. For more than 30 years, Plant With Purpose has been a leader in linking international community development and environmental solutions, working with smallholder farmers in strategic areas where environmental degradation and poverty intersect. Plant With Purpose currently works in Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Dominican Republic, Ethiopia, Haiti, Mexico, Tanzania, and Thailand, employing an integrated methodology that combines environmental restoration, economic empowerment, and spiritual renewal. Activities include watershed restoration, reforestation, sustainable agriculture training, savings-and-loan groups, local leadership development, and supporting outreach efforts of the local Christian church.
