Requirements (Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification): 
  • Associate degree in electronics or computer science (or 24 months training or 24 months experience in design and maintenance of networked systems and servers);
  • Certified network engineer designation (CNE), Cisco Certified network Associate (CCNA), or equivalent; working knowledge and experience with data networking electronics such as LAN/WAN routers, switches and hubs; solid knowledge about Ethernet and TCP/IP networking protocols
  • One (1) course in supervision or one (1) month experience
  • Must be able to maintain a flexible schedule and willing to work overtime
  • Must be willing to support agency satellite office
  • Required to carry a cell phone
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: (*Indicates developed after employment)
Knowledge of: agency policies and procedures*; work prioritization; data networking electronics (LAN/WAN routers, switches, and hubs); solid knowledge of Ethernet and TCP/IP networking protocols; solid ability to administer Microsoft based network systems and related applications and equipment.
Ability to: define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; interpret extensive variety of technical material in books, journals and manuals; carry out instructions in written, oral and picture form; prepare meaningful, concise and accurate reports; communicate effectively; cooperate with co-workers and move group projects forward. 
Skill in: Critical thinking and logical decision making to implement new systems and troubleshoot existing problems. Ability to communicate clearly in both writing and speaking with various levels of staff, management, the public and vendors.
LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
CNE, CCNA or equivalent
POSITION SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Will support agency satellite offices as needed and assigned. Required to carry a cell phone. On call 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Must be available for on-call networking support according to a rotating schedule among the network engineers; willing to work occasionally outside office hours in case of scheduled or emergency maintenance.
AGENCY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, programming, or a related field from an accredited college or university; 
  • One (1) year of experience in design and maintenance of networked systems and servers; 
  • MCSA or CCNA
Job Duties (Summary)
  • Responsible for installation, testing, repairs and corrective actions on LAN systems under control of agency. Serves as liaison with state network staff to administer, support and troubleshoot local network systems including servers, switches, firewalls, VPN and other peripheral systems and equipment. Uses state provided tools such as VMWare, SCCM, SCOM to implement and maintain new software and hardware programs for both desktop and mobile devices. Responsible for coordinating network projects and solutions across multiple platforms including storage area network, data backup and recovery and network protocols.   Recommends, assists in procuring, and implements the adoption of new network hardware and software; secures network system by establishing and enforcing policies, defining and monitoring access.
  • Ensures 24/7 availability of all agency networking equipment by providing adequate maintenance, backup, and recovery of all network hardware and software. Provides third-tier technical support troubleshooting network usage and computer peripherals using sniffers and other monitoring tools. Provides technical guidance for other Network and PC support staff and facilitates the sharing of technical knowledge with agency staff regarding network use and utilization.  
  • Works with networking vendors on problems with networking products during operation on the network. Places repair calls on equipment and coordinates purchase and replacement. Maintains extensive documentation of network infrastructure hardware, diagrams and site location for inventory and configuration tracking. Serves as project leader as necessary on Network related projects.  
  • Performs other duties and attends necessary training as required.
