Agricultural Engineering Instructor

Hartnell College has undertaken a dramatic revitalization of Career Technical Education programs, beginning with the creation of the Agricultural Business and Technology Institute. This exciting and progressive partnership with the region's agriculture industry includes two main programs leading to degrees: Agricultural Business (with business, production, and food safety options) and Manufacturing Technology (mechatronics).
Under the general direction of the area dean, the agriculture engineering instructor will be responsible for providing instruction in the manufacturing technology discipline, which includes, but is not limited to, Mechatronics, Instrumentation, Robotics, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Introduction to Mechanized Agriculture, Agriculture Equipment Fabrication, Welding, Hydraulics, Pneumatics, and Tractor Operations. The instructor will fulfill the professional responsbilities of a full-time faculty member, including, but not limited to: teaching scheduled classes; following the course outline; maintaining scheduled office hours; and participating in departmental meetings. This assignment may include teaching at any of the college's campus sites; day, evening, or weekend classes; large lectures, smaller seminar-like classes, or lab-based classes; distance learning; and using multiple teaching methodologies. Recruiting students fro both high school and industry will be an important responsibility.
Coordinate, plan, organize, and instruct lecture and lab courses as assigned;
Coordinate, plan, prepare, present, evaluate, and deliver classroom instruction and related activities, including developing and revising curriculum; using computer and advanced technologies in instruction; and maintaining currency in field; Offer student advising and assistance;
Assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies, and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussion;
Develop and file appropriate syllabi for each course taught, ensuring that each syllabus conforms to required and approved curriculum, has appropriate content and pedagogy, and reflects currency in field;
Recommend textbooks and other instructional materials, including classroom and laboratory equipment, to dean;
Keep students informed about their progress through the prompt evaluation and grading of papers and other work;
Maintain and report accurate and complete scholastic records, including attendance records;
Participate in program and curriculum review and development;
Develop and assess student learning and program level outcomes;
Utilize the results of student learning outcomes assessment to make improvements in teaching and learning;
Post and maintain office hours for student consultations;
Participate in student recruitment and articulation programs;
Participate in faculty recruitment and peer evaluation;
Collegially participate in department, college, and discipline-specific activities;
Participate in assignments and activities that support accreditation, institutional planning, and institutional effectiveness;
Participate in college governance, including serving on various committees;
Participate in local, state, regional, and national professional activities and organizations;
Attend faculty meetings, college assemblies, professional development and orientation activities, and other meetings as called by the dean, vice president, superintendent/president, or designee.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any bachelor's degree AND two years of relevant experience OR
Any associate's degree AND six years of relevant experience OR
the equivalent. (Applicants applying for equivalency consideration must submit an equivalency form for equivalency committee review).
Preference may be given to candidates with a Master's degree. Earned degrees preferred in agriculture, agriculture science, education with a specialization in agriculture or other agricultural areas including: agriculture systems management, bioresource and agriculture engineering, enology, environmental horticulture, equine science, forestry, natural resources, plant science, pomology, soil science, viticulture or other agriculture science.
Preference may be given to candidates with experience operating industrial equipment, processing plant automation, and equipment automation.
Preference may be given to candidates with prior teaching experience employing "hands-on" or "project-based" learning methods.
Preference may be given to candidates with experience working with advisory committees and/or agriculture industry associations and related groups.
Preference may be given to candidates with experience teaching culturally diverse and nontraditional student.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Full-time, grant-funded, non-tenure track, agriculture faculty position. Position currently funded for two years (2020-2022 academic years). Continued employment will be dependent on future grant/donor funding.
Starting faculty salary range: $56,560 to $85,006 annually based on 175 days per academic year. Within this salary range, the successful candidate’s starting salary will be based on verified education and teaching experience.
District provides health benefits, which currently consist of full coverage for medical, dental, and vision insurance for employee and a high percentage of coverage for eligible dependents.
