Recycling Technical Expert

We play a critical role in the global Circular Economy, and are the largest recyclers of end of life electronics in North America, converting e-scrap to non-ferrous and precious metals using our network of Recycling sampling sites, Smelters, and Refineries.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Recycling Technical Expert (RTE)

The RTE directly supports the Recycling Trading team in managing overall Risk on the Commercial side of the business, while also setting standards for, and overseeing adherence to Risk Management principles, and critical process control parameters across all Recycling sites. The RTE is also responsible for maintaining technical knowledge of the e-scrap industry trends, and staying on top of the key developments in the space from a technical and risk management perspective.

REPORTING RESPONSIBILITY
Reports directly to the Commercial Lead for Recycling and to the Global Risk Management Team

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

·       Maintain up-to-date knowledge of latest trends in e-scrap feed make-up, as well as evolving techniques in their sampling/ sample prep/ assaying, and technologies for processing and metal recovery
·       Engage with industry technical experts and participate in technical conferences and forums for sharing of best practices and benchmarking against the market
·       Conduct risk based audits of e-scrap, and other scrap, suppliers – mostly in North America and Europe, but potentially globally as well (between 50 and 100 customer audits per year)
·       Advise commercial team on setting logical commercial terms for a given feed type, consistent with feed characteristics, sampling error, and other technical considerations and restraints
·       Interface with all Glencore recycling sites globally on an ongoing basis to:
·       Ensure adherence to a risk and market based sampling and assaying approach
·       Conduct ongoing quality audits and benchmarking across sites
·       Conduct targeted testing at specific sites to study new techniques and/or to help diagnose any issues
·       Liaise with Glencore Global Risk Management Team on all of above items, as well as to help other teams within the Company in any other Risk Management / Quality Control related matter



JOB SPECIFICATION

 
Key job requirements
·       Position is based in New York or Toronto
·       70-80% travel (including international)
 
Knowledge
·       A technical degree (Bachelors or higher) in a relevant field from a reputed academic institution
·       5+ years direct experience in a technical capacity in the electronics scrap processing industry, focused on the topics of sampling and sample preparation
·       Hand on field experience Process Quality Control around manufacturing/production including Six Sigma methodology/Statistical process control (SPC) monitors
·       Deep and scientific knowledge of sampling theory, coupled with extensive hands-on in-field experience on the topic
·       Experience at or with a top mining company within the smelting/refining of electronic scrap will be an advantage
·       Excellent knowledge of historical, current, and future trends in the e-scrap industry in terms of:
o  E-scrap feed types and how they are evolving
o  Techniques for sampling e-scrap
o  Technologies for processing and refining e-scrap feeds

Experience
·       Experience with electronic scrap industry will be an important asset
·       Six Sigma or equivalent certification on process control will be an advantage
 
Skills
·       Very proficient in Statistics and Analytics, and well versed in latest tools for both
·       Excellent communication skills
·       Ability to manage multiple internal and external customers/stakeholders
·       Ability to conduct technical research on latest techniques/trends/technologies
