YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
In Bayer’s Pharmaceuticals division, we focus on researching, developing and marketing specialty-focused innovative medicines that provide significant clinical benefit and value, primarily in the therapeutic areas of cardiology, oncology, gynecology, hematology and ophthalmology. With our innovative products, we seek to achieve therapeutic benefit for patients, while at the same time satisfying the growing requirements of physicians and health insurers. As one of the leading research-based pharmaceutical companies worldwide, we have nearly 50 ongoing development projects in clinical trials. 
 
The primary responsibilities of this role, Data Science Intern, are to: 
 
  • Develop code in multiple programing languanges (e.g. MATLAB, Python,R, etc.);
  • Support mining of process data from IT systems and databases;
  • Develop workflows for mining, pre-processing and visualization of data;
  • Evaluate and apply different machine learning methods;
  • Interact with DSS members to support activities and projects in the areas of bioprocess monitoring, root cause analysis, process understanding and process improvements;
  • Communicate outcome of development activities to the team;
  • Document project outcome in a short technical report.

Required Qualifications:
 
  • Actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Math or (Bio)Statistics;
  • Be a full-time continuing student (i.e. enrolled in school for the next term - Not Graduating in Spring 2021);
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to deal professionally with internal customers of various organizational levels;
  • Ability to work effectively within the team and cross-functionally;
  • Good organization, documentation, prioritization and scheduling skills together with an overall desire to learn;
  • Strong problem-solving skills and critical thinking;
  • Ability to learn new technical topics;
  • Ability to work independently and multi-task;
  • Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office with beginner level proficiency with Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Interest in machine learning applications;
  • Programming experience in multiple languages/environments (such as MATLAB, Python, R, etc.).
 
Preferred Qualifications:
 
  • Interest in Life Sciences;
  • Familiarity or experience with cloud (i.e. AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.) environments.
