This individual will work on the Deployment Operations team to develop process engineering standards for the deployment of Amazon Robotics and other advanced technologies in Amazon buildings worldwide, ensuring high quality using Lean principles. Possible projects include: developing complex financial analysis models for recognizing cost saving opportunities for global deployments or determining time standards to make recommendations for tools and process requirements of existing product lines. They will apply statistical and mathematical models to optimize efficiency, staffing requirements, and production standards.

This role is a 6 month co-op to join AR full time (40 hours/week) from July-December 2021. Amazon Robotics co-op opportunities will be based in the Greater Boston Area, in our two state-of-the-art facilities in Westborough and North Reading, MA. Both campuses provide a unique opportunity for interns to have direct access to robotics testing labs and manufacturing facilities

The Co-op will be responsible for:
  • Create standard processes and in-line quality control check points to catch defects upstream and avoid additional cost downstream
  • Apply complete knowledge of industrial engineering process improvement strategies and lean techniques (eg. Method analysis, work combination charts, ergonomics, visual controls, safety, Kanban, poka yoke) to analyze and improve overall deployment operations
  • Develop an understanding of the current manufacturing processes and identify targets for improvement in transactional and operational efficiencies
  • Support in implementation of LEAN modules such as standardization and waste elimination
  • Assist in creating comprehensive process flow mapping, not limited to process speed and capability, labor content, ambient requirements, utility requirements, and inventory buffers.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or advanced degree in Industrial Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or related education
  • Proficient in AutoCAD / 2D layouts
  • Understanding of metrics, process capabilities, LEAN and IE techniques
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good work ethic, desire to learn and be challenged
