HMI User Experience Engineer (L6)

Job Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced User Experience (UX) Interaction Designer who can create a cohesive digital Human Machine Interface (HMI) experience for the next generation of in-vehicle truck information systems. In this role, you will be able to not only influence and enhance product development, but also interface with a varied cross-functional team of designers, engineers, sales and marketing as well as customers and drivers who use our products.
 
 
Responsibilities 

  • Responsible for complex projects and tasks as a technical lead or as project team consultant.
  • Collaborates with business development, research and prototyping, and product management to define the next generations of business concepts and solutions.
  • Works with the design team and stakeholders to develop a research approach and schedule.
  • Defines and drives both qualitative and quantitative user data gathering efforts.
  • Presents concepts and initial ideas with rationale to departmental directors, project managers, and clients.
  • Setting up, executing, and reporting on all aspects of qualitative and quantitative user experience research.
  • Designs and conducts user research using methods such as ethnographic field studies, participatory design sessions, site visits, focus groups, benchmark studies, usability studies, and heuristic evaluations.
  • Synthesizes findings to inform a better understanding of end users, give insight into business value, and identify potential usability issues and design opportunities.
  • Converts research findings into actionable results.
  • Designs prototypes, screen layouts and wireframes based on results of usability testing and user feedback.
Qualifications - External
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university/college required
  • 2-4 years relevant experience required
  • A degree focus in Human Factors Engineering, Cognitive Psychology or related field required
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills, including cross-functional collaboration required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Experience with identifying and solving the root cause of complex problems required
  • Understanding of engineering processes and downstream impacts required
  • Experience with Usability Testing and Design of Experiments required
  • Familiarity with design tools such as Adobe CS and Visio required
  • Fluent in creating quick and low fidelity prototypes required
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft office suite ( Outlook, Excel, Word) required
  • An attached resume is required
Typical Minimum Experience Preferred (Desired Skills/Experience)
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Demonstrate experience with data visualization software preferred
  • Exposure to Agile development preferred
  • Ability to work comfortably with HTML5, CSS, JavaScript preferred
