The role: 
What's it like to work for the nationally-recognized and award-winning team of communicators at the Oregon Department of Transportation? Tom Fuller, Communications Manager, likes to say we work hard and have a lot of fun doing it.
We are looking for an energetic, experienced and creative individual who can lead our internal communications to a staff of nearly 5,000. This person will create and execute an internal communications plan, and be the coach and curator of the agency's News Hub.
They will also work to support the communications needs of the Office of Organizational Development, which leads change management efforts at our agency.

A day in the life:
  • Conduct customer-based research and perform analyses, using action research techniques, project management tools, technical data analysis and quality management tools.
  • Work closely with agency leadership and staff to assess internal communication needs and develop agency-wide strategies that interface with other communication goals and objectives, the Oregon Transportation Commission, other agencies and external partners.
  • Advise management and suggest information strategies and tactics and agency courses of action.
  • Perform as project leader to develop and implement plans to meet the organization’s internal strategic communications needs.
  • Develop and lead specific agency communication and organizational change management strategies and initiatives to support leadership bodies and efforts.
  • Work is performed in a typical office environment with overnight travel and occasional night or weekend work required.

What we need:
A bachelor's degree in business or public administration, behavioral or social sciences, finance, political science or communications and four years professional-level evaluative, analytical and planning work related to communications.
OR
Any combination of experience and education equivalent to seven years of progressively-responsible experience related to communications.

Driving is an essential function of this position. You must possess and maintain a valid driver license and acceptable driving record. Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.
