Responsibilities


  • Design and develop mechanical components, sub-assemblies and assemblies for mechanical and electronic sub-systems using 3D CAD tools including Solid Works and ProE.
  • Modify existing designs to improve or achieve design goals.
  • Create and verify mechanical drawings using geometric dimensioning and tolerancing and mechanical and electrical assembly drawings with consistent parts lists under configuration management.
  • Work with mechanical and electrical engineering staff, machine shops and technicians to produce designs that are achievable, maintainable and serviceable while being cost effective.
  • Create 3D renderings of mechanical designs and assemblies for presentations and documentation.
  • Other related functions as assigned.


Required Qualifications

Bachelor degree and two years of experience in mechanical 3D CAD design and documentation. Two years of related experience in mechanical design and documentation. Experience in design and development of mechanical components using ProE and/or SolidWorks computer-aided design (CAD) tools. Experience interfacing with vendors and machine shops to procure mechanical components. Experience and training with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing per ASME Y14.5. Demonstrated ability to work independently and with sensitive and confidential information, maintain a professional demeanor, work as a team member with and without daily supervision, work several overlapping projects over a short period of time, ability to work within an environment with rapidly changing priorities, and effectively communicate with diverse groups of clients.  Able to work under pressure and accept supervision. Regular and punctual attendance. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
US Citizen:  Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position. 


Preferred Qualifications

Master's or other advanced degree. More than two years of professional experience as a mechanical designer or CAD designer. Experience involving product development from concept, to detailed design and manufacturing. Experience in the mechanical design and specification of electronic printed circuit card assemblies. Experience with mechanical and electronic drawing databases.
